Dairy Sire Analyst

Select Sires is seeking a highly motivated person with expertise in dairy cattle genetics and a passion for the dairy industry to join a team of highly respected sire analysts. This position will be responsible for working with breeders to help build the superior genetic offerings provided to the Select Sires customer base.  Traditional Holstein genetic acquisition is the main focus of this position with added minor roles in non-Holstein acquisition as well. This individual must be team oriented, highly organized, have strong negotiation skills, and possess a strong understanding of bovine genomics and the application of the science. Multi-tasking, collaborating with other teams, and a willingness to explore and implement new contractual relationships with key seed stock breeders is imperative. Developing genetic material that contributes to the entire Select Sires portfolio, using multiple ranking indexes in making selection decisions to meet the diverse needs of customers around the world is essential.

Additionally, the Dairy Sire Analyst position, will assist team marketing efforts in developing and presenting genetic proposals to dairy producers within a geographical area.  This position will also be called upon to deliver key training and marketing genetic messages filling various member cooperatives and World-Wide Sires needs.
This preference is for the position to cover the Midwest or Western region of the USA.

Candidate must:

  • Have working experience and expertise in utilizing Genomic evaluations
  • Be familiar with Holstein pedigrees and a willingness to learn non-Holstein pedigrees
  • Be detail oriented, organized, and able to plan and meet critical deadlines
  • Have excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills
  • Be a creative thinker, always looking at future genetic needs and plans based on market projections
  • Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Animal Agriculture/Quantitative Genetics/or Genomic Technology, or a minimum of 5 years of industry working knowledge in these topics.
  • Be willing to assist in potential embryo development/embryo marketing activities being considered for the future.

Skills required include:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a willingness to learn new data base applications
  • Strong understanding of optimal animal husbandry
  • Appreciation for cattle with elite genetic indexes and a strong understanding of market value for these elite cattle
  • Versed in proposal development, and contract negotiation skills
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including weekends

Livestock Technicians

Select Sires, Inc. is seeking several Livestock Technicians. Work schedules and duties vary per facility for these non-exempt positions. All work schedules are subject to change to meet departmental needs. Candidate must be self-directed, detail-oriented, and organized

Kellgren and Hecker Centers - Reports to Joel Boysel/Lance Ridge
Livestock Technician duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Bull handling for semen collection
  • Stall cleaning, feeding, any and all related barn chores
  • Other tasks as assigned

The work schedule is based on ten (10) hour days and four (4) days per week, rotational scheduling requires some weekend work. The hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Overtime opportunities are available.

HDQ Chichester Center - Reports to Jim Pond and Dave Adkins
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing complete care of bulls and animals to include reporting health and condition, assisting with feeding and stall management
  • Assisting with the management of silos and related equipment
  • Cleaning hay and feed storage barns

The work schedule is 4:30 am to 1:00 pm on rotating days that include working some weekends. Work schedules and duties are subject to change to meet departmental needs for this non-exempt position.
