Select Sires 50th Anniversary Book Available

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, September 12, 2015-A new book commemorating Select Sires Inc.’s golden anniversary is now available. The Elevation of An Industry: 50 Years of Select Sires Helping the Cattle Industry Reach New Heights follows the story of how Select Sires grew from four cooperatives in three states to the worldwide industry leader it is today.

Written by Kirk Sattazahn, director of marketing for Select Sire Power, the book tells the unique story of the birth of 7HO58 Round Oak Rag Apple ELEVATION (EX-96-GM) in 1965, the same year as the incorporation of Select Sires. Elevation of An Industry features stories and historical information about Select’s programs and services, influential people and impact sires of all breeds interwoven with historical moments in the dairy industry throughout the past 50 years. It also includes a foreword by Horace Backus and interviews with past General Manager Dick Chichester and current President and C.E.O., David Thorbahn.

“Covering 50 years of Select Sires was an interesting experience as the guiding principles that served Select Sires well for 50 years are still in effect today; soliciting guidance from the dairy and beef producers that own the cooperative to set a course for the company and then hire the best people in the industry to execute the plan,” says Sattazahn. “The book has a strong focus on the last 25 years of Select Sires and the innovation and growth that has occurred during that period is remarkable. Select Sires exists to help feed a hungry world and the commitment of the company to continue to develop programs that help producers maximize the return on their genetic and reproductive enterprise bodes well for the next 50 years.”

The Elevation of an Industry is now available exclusively at www.selectsiresstore.com.
