Willie Altenburg Joins Select Sires as Beef Development Advisor

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, August 17, 2016 &ndash Select Sires has hired Willie Altenburg as beef development advisor. His role will include assisting member cooperative employees with developing independent beef representatives and enhancing beef sales. Additionally, Altenburg will acquire sires for the beef program.

“I am excited to join the Select Sires beef program,” said Altenburg. “My past years of experience in the beef A.I. industry have shown that strong people and sires are required to build a strong program, and I hope I can add to what Select Sires has already built. I am glad I have been asked to join the Select Sires team and am anxious to get started.”

Altenburg received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville before starting his nearly 45-year career in the beef A.I. industry. Besides his experience with marketing and developing beef genetics he has served as president of the Beef Improvement Federation and as a member of the board of directors for the American Simmental Association and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Most recently Altenburg was the chair of the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association beef improvement committee. He, and his wife Sharon, have built a successful Simmental and SimAngus seedstock operation in Wellington, Colo.
