Select-Sired Holsteins Surpass Competition at the RAWF
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Nov. 22, 2010 - Select Sires dominated the junior and intermediate heifer calf classes at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF) Holstein Show. In the Red-and-White Holstein Show, the king of the show ring, 7HO7872 KHW Kite ADVENT-RED-ET (EX-94), proved his influence in the breed as a three-peat Premier Sire.
SANCHEZ Daughters Steal the Holstein Heifer Show
Select Sires set the stage for the outstanding Holstein show with five of the top eight junior and intermediate calves. Winning the junior calf class was 7HO8221 Golden-Oaks St ALEXANDER-ET (EX-91) daughter Roll-N-View Alex Bristol, owned by Cooper Galton, Nunda, N.Y. Following Bristol in the junior calf class, ranking among the top eight finishers were daughters of 7HO8190 Gen-Mark Stmatic SANCHEZ (EX-94), 7HO9165 Regancrest S BRAXTON-ET (EX-94), and high genomic Super Sampler™ 7HO10506 Maple-Downs-I G W ATWOOD-ET (VG-87). In the intermediate calf class, four SANCHEZ daughters along with a 7HO7596 Den-K Marshall LL LAURIN daughter placed among the top eight to dominate the class. In the senior calf and summer yearling classes, two SANCHEZ daughters excelled ranking among the top ten of their individual classes. Although a majority of his offspring competed in the young calf class, SANCHEZ went on to finish as the third place Premier Sire of the heifer show.
In the cow classes, 7HO7004 Erbacres DAMION (EX-95) daughter Silvermaple Damion Camomile (VG-87-CAN) led the junior two-year-old class. Camomile is owned by Ben and Suzanne Cuthbert, Stanhope Dairy Farm Ltd., and Wedgewood Holsteins of Victoria, B.C. Rounding out the top ten in the junior two-year-old class was a daughter of 7HO8175 Windy-Knoll-View PRONTO-ET. In the milking yearling class, LAURIN and 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV (EX-90-GM) offspring garnered the second and third places, and in the mature cow class, an ADVENT-RED daughter finished third.
ADVENT-RED Completes Hat Trick as Red-and-White Premier Sire
ADVENT-RED completed a hat trick with three consecutive wins as Premier Sire at RAWF, following an outstanding show year at World Dairy Expo and with daughters time and again taking the top spots in their classes. ADVENT-RED sired the first place senior two-year-old, Starmark-I Gudule, who went on to be named reserve intermediate champion for Faberdale Fairy and Morsan Farms Ltd., Ponoka, Alta. The second place senior two-year-old and honorable mention intermediate champion was Greenlea Adv Cara-Red-ET (VG-87), owned by Declan Patten, Australia. Cara sold the day prior to the show at the Greenlea Dispersal for $56,000. Earlier in the year, Cara was named the Pennsylvania All-American Show Grand Champion and second place senior two-year-old at World Dairy Expo. The junior three-year-old class was led by four ADVENT-RED daughters. Topping the class was Budjon-Nitzy Destiny-Red-ET (EX-92), owned by Milk Source LLC, Kaukauna, Wis. Destiny also won her class and the futurity class at World Dairy Expo and was named Reserve Intermediate Champion.
7HO9236 MD-Valleyvue CAMDEN-RED-ET sired the reserve junior champion female and first place intermediate yearling, Tem-North Camden Dixie-Red. Dixie was purchased for $30,000 by Chilliwack Cattle Sales, Chilliwack, B.C., at the Greenlea Dispersal. At the 2010 World Dairy Expo, she was named reserve junior champion female.
