ULTRA CARETM Towels...

THE DRY SOLUTION TO TEAT DIPPING

The newest innovation in the fight against mastitis is now available from Select Sires. Ultra CareTM Iodine Teat Towels combine iodine with skin conditioners in a dry towel that can be used for both pre- and post-milking mastitis prevention. This one-step mastitis prevention towel was introduced to dairy producers at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin in October and is now available from the four Select Sires cooperatives serving the Midwest and Northeast.

Ultra Care towels are made with a patented process that dry-coats each 7.5" x 10" towel with 0.5% iodine, the most widely used active ingredient for killing mastitis-causing bacteria. The towels come in spill free, four pound light-weight boxes. Each contains 600 pull-out single-use towels. The iodine is released from the woven towel with the rubbing action that occurs at the time of use. The impregnated iodine will not dry out with exposure to the air.

"The towels' marketing niche initially will be the Midwest and Northeast," comments Bill Thompson, Vice President, Marketing and Development at Select Sires. "Cold, damp winter winds can freeze exposed teats that have been dipped after milking. Ultra Care towels can replace wet towels, dips and salves when the weather turns cold, allowing cows to walk outside into the cold with dry teats. The cows will still have the iodine protection of dips without the potential teat damage that can result from harsh winter conditions."

Thompson emphasized the fact that Ultra Care towels also contain skin conditioning agents that soften the teat skin, especially in the winter. Milkers' hands are also spared the wear and tear that are caused by harsh chemicals found in other udder care products. Ultra Care Teat Towels are manufactured by Promad Corporation and distributed through Universal Marketing Services, Visalia, CA. "These unique towels are another in a premium line of animal management products we are pleased to market with Select Sires," states Jim Winter, General Manager of UMS. "University research has proven that Ultra Care towels are effective using a test protocol recommended by the National Mastitis Council. The study shows that the towel reduces new intramammary infections just as effectively as a 0.5% iodine teat dip. This, combined with its dry-use properties, makes the Ultra Care towel a logical milking aid for dairy producers."
