John Hecker Honored
With Building Dedication
at Select Sires
PLAIN CITY, OHIO, USA


"The impact of John’s genetic decisions has been demonstrated on thousands of dairy farms of all breeds for over 50 years," remarks Select’s General Manager, Richard Chichester. "Dairymen have milked more daughters of sires purchased by John Hecker than anyone else in the history of the artificial insemination industry." For that, Select Sires has named its newest facility in his honor. The John Hecker Production Center houses 32 of Select’s most elite sires.

In presenting the honor to Hecker and his wife, Ruth, Ron Long, Vice-President of Sire Procurement and Type Evaluation Programs commented, "The impact of John’s sire acquisitions for Select Sires has been felt around the world. Bulls like Bell, Mark, Bova, Mars Tony, Enchantment, Memorial Glendell and the Jersey great, Sooner, all have John’s signature on their contracts." His matings remain on Select’s lineup even today with Holstein and Jersey elites Highlight and Malcolm. His life-long work continues to form the foundation of today’s genetic giants world-wide.

Hecker served the A.I. industry as a Sire Analyst from June of 1946 until March of 1987. The first 23 years found him at Michigan Animal Breeders Cooperative, now NorthStar-Select Sires, creating and implementing their sire acquisition and sampling programs. He spent the subsequent 18 years as the Sr. Sire Analyst at Select Sires’ headquarters in Plain City, OH.

The Heckers are residents of Columbus, Ohio. They are the parents of two daughters and have three grandchildren.

Hecker dedicated 41 years to A.I. and to helping Select’s federation of 10 farmer-owned and controlled cooperatives achieve its basic objective: to provide America's best genetics at reasonable prices. It started in the 1940’s and the legacy of his work will stretch into this next century.
