Two Young Sires Bred in Pennsylvania Enter A.I.


PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Nov. 3, 2000 - 7HO6704 Hidden-View BARRETT-ET, a young Holstein sire bred by Teresa A. Kissling, Robesonia, Pa., and 7HO6649 LATUCH Decision Duster-ET, a young Holstein sire bred by Roger and David Latuch, Rockwood, Pa., have been chosen to enter Select Sires' Program for Genetic Advancement (PGA) sire-sampling system. Based on their outstanding pedigrees, Barrett and Latuch are two of 315 Holstein bulls from throughout the United States to enter the program in 2000. In addition to being sampled through PGA Cooperator herds, these young sires have been identified as Super Samplers. With this designation, their semen is available to all interested Holstein breeders.

Barrett combines a unique sire stack - 7HO4960 SFL Converse Kilo-ET*TL x 7HO3948 MJR Blackstar Emory-ET*TL x Rothrock Tradition Leadman*TL - a high-type, high-component cow family. At 2 years, 2 months of age, Barrett's dam, Hidden-View Emory Beauty-ET (VG-86), produced 36,160 pounds of milk, 1,326 pounds of fat and 1,097 pounds of protein in 365 days. Beauty has two full sisters that are scored Very Good (87) and Very Good (88), both with records greater than 32,000 pounds of milk, 1,300 pounds of fat and 1,000 pounds of protein.

Latuch descends from a family with high Productive Life (PL) values. His sire, Pen-Col Decision-ET*TL, has a PL of +1.5 and his dam, Latuch Emory Fran (EX-90-EX-MS), has a PL of +2.1. At 2-5, Fran produced 27,850 pounds of milk, 926 pounds of fat and 887 pounds of protein. Latuch's grandam, Latuch Leadman Fawn-ET (VG-85), has a PL value of +1.9. Fawn's lifetime production is 100,390 pounds of milk, 4,009 pounds of fat and 3,430 pounds of protein.
