High-Components Breeds Lineup at Select Sires Features A.I. Industry's Leading PTI Sires
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, May 23, 2001 — Dairy producers who work
with high-components breeds and use Production-Type Indexes
(PTIs) as a guide for sire selection can continue to look to
Select Sires as a primary source of high-PTI sires in all
breeds. This follows the spring quarterly publishing of dairy
sire evaluations by the U.S. Department of Agriculture,
InterBull and the breed associations. With the addition of
a new Jersey active-A.I. sire - 7JE472 BW PARADE-ET - to the
lineup, the Select federation's 10 member cooperatives now market
semen from a total of 37 active-A.I. sires in the Ayrshire,
Brown Swiss, Guernsey and Jersey breeds.

significant resources in developing sires for tomorrow," says

selection of high-components-breed sires with highly reliable proofs."
Four of the top Eight Jerseys for PTI
One of the breed's top eight sires for PTI in Select's lineup
is 7JE424 Molly Brook Glnwood FREEDOM-ET with +293 PTI. This Duncan
Duke of GLENWOOD son is the only active-A.I. Jersey sire to have a
Predicted Transmitting Ability (PTA) for Fluid Merit Dollars (FM$)
that is higher than +500, and is the breed's best for PTA Fat with
+69 pounds. A SUPERIOR SETTLERTM, FREEDOM also is transmitting scale,
dairyness and high, wide rear udders to his daughters.
With the addition of daughter information from New Zealand,
7JE474 MVF Berretta FREDRICO-ET's production proof strengthened,
giving him the breed's sixth-highest PTI-M of +285. Also a SUPERIOR
SETTLER, FREDRICO has the third-highest value for Cheese Merit Dollars
(+456), backed by PTAs of +1,234M -.03%F +52F +.04%P +50P.
Ranked seventh and eighth for PTI in the Jersey breed are 9JE173
Barbs MBSB COSMO-ET at +278 PTI and 7JE442 Rock Ella PARAMOUNT-ET
at +276 PTI-M. With a PTA for type of +2.5, PARAMOUNT is a SUPERIOR
SETTLER that is one of seven Select sires earning PTATs of +2.0 or higher.
Select's newest Jersey graduate, 7JE472 BW PARADE-ET, is Comfort
Royal ALF-ET's highest son for type (+2.3 PTAT) and second-highest
for PTI (+242). His original-crop 7JE254 Mason Boomer Sooner BERRETTA
dam developed into an Excellent (93) cow with two consecutive 30,000-pound
milk records in a 750-cow herd. Her tremendous frame is transmitted to
PARADE daughters, giving him PTAs for all body traits that are greater
than +2.0. Also a transmitter of impressive fat production (+.08 PTA%F, +42 PTAF),
PARADE is an udder-improver, siring daughters with extraordinary rear udders,
strong ligaments and close teat placement.
Highest Sire in Guernsey Breed
9GU141 Blackwater Lord AMEN has moved into the Guernsey breed's top spot
for PTI with +255 PTI. A components specialist, AMEN ranks second in the
breed for fat (+67 PTAF), protein (+57 PTAP) and CM$ (+392).
Rounding out the group of Select sires in the top eight for PTI are
7GU342 Marodore Jimco RAPTOR-ET at +212, 9GU136 Twin L Farms Magic
FARO-ET at +202 and 7GU339 Trotacre Jay Mr LUXURY-ET at +193 PTI-M.
The breed's two top improvers of type also can be found in the Select
lineup. 9GU134 Tamaracks Perfectos VALIANT-ET is once again the highest
active-A.I. Guernsey sire for PTAT at +2.4, with breed-leading PTA values
for udder cleft (+2.20) and udder depth (S1.40). Following with +1.9 PTAT
is 7GU350 Sherma Enhancer Rosie NITRO, who ranks first or second in the
breed for improving rear-udder height and width, udder cleft and
teat placement.
Brown Swiss Lineup Features No. 2 PTI Sire
Introduced into active-A.I. service in February, 7BS733 Misa Jetway
MASCOT ET moved from fourth to the No. 2 PTI position at +314 PTI-M.
With new data from daughters in Switzerland added to his proof, MASCOT
ranks third in active-A.I. for protein pounds and has PTA values of
+1,643M +.02%F +70F +.01%P +56P (IB-M/USA).
Three additional Select sires are among the top 20 active-A.I. Brown Swiss
for PTI, including 7BS722 Victory Acres Prophet SAM at +234, 7BS715 Rolling
View Jetway CHIME ET at +218 and 7BS729 R Hart Chillers CUBE, whose proof
also gained daughter information from Switzerland, at +215 PTI-M.
Still First and Second in the Ayrshire Breed
Semen from the top two active-A.I. Ayrshire sires for PTI is available
exclusively from Select Sires. 7AY62 Ardrossan Marathon WANDRINGEYE is
once again No. 1 at +287 PTI. This outlier (+1,396 PTAM +47 PTAP +59 PTAF
+465 CM$) continues to attract attention from Ayrshire breeders who are
intent on adding a balance of milk, components and type to their breeding
programs. 9AY69 Palmyra Lover's HELIGO's-ET stayed in second for PTI
with +264. One of only two Ayrshire sires to be higher than +400 for CM$
(in addition to WANDRINGEYE) L HELIGO is the breed's highest for Fluid Merit
Dollars (+460) and has PTA values of +1,282M +52F +34P.
Remaining in the top five of the breed for PTI is 7AY60 Covey-Farms Ramses
RECRUITER with +200 PTI-M.
