The World's source for Bovine Genetics
Select Sires Announces Exclusive
Embryo Marketing Agreement
With Two Leading
Red Angus Breeders

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, July 9, 2001 — Select Sires Inc. has announced an exclusive marketing relationship with two leading breeders of Red Angus cattle to offer high-quality direct-transfer embryos throughout the world. In response to growing demand for cutting-edge Red Angus genetics, the Select Sires embryo division is working with both the Hust Cattle Company, Slaughters, Ky., and Neo-Sho Farms, Southwest City, Mo., to provide top-pedigreed embryos for progressive beef producers.

"Three years ago we pioneered a Red Angus embryo program by working with some of the Hust Cattle Company’s top animals," says Paul Detwiler, embryo marketing director, Select Sires. "Producers who purchased the resulting embryos to improve their herds have been so pleased with the results that the demand has been growing steadily. That’s why Select Sires has entered into an agreement to become the exclusive source of high-quality embryos from both Hust Cattle Company and Neo-Sho Farms."

Not only does this program offer genetics from new and different bloodlines, but it also enables producers to maintain their herd’s biosecurity while introducing these new genetics.

"Since all embryos produced by Select Sires are prepared according to International Embryo Transfer Society standards, producers can incorporate these embryos into their breeding programs without compromising the biosecurity of their herds," says Detwiler. "The care that goes into making sure that the embryos offer top genetics and meet the most stringent health and biosecurity protocols is an important added value for top breeders everywhere."

Not only is the Hust Cattle Company a source of embryos for this groundbreaking program, but it also has implemented an aggressive embryo-transfer (ET) program for its 400-head herd. "Our main goal is to produce more high-quality Red Angus cattle with proven carcass genetics," says Lawrence Hust, owner of Hust Cattle Company. "We turned to embryo transfer as the best way to increase the number of valuable offspring from our very best cows. Our first ET calves hit the ground this spring and we’re excited with the results. That’s just one of the reasons why we’re proud to be a part of Select’s Red Angus embryo program, hoping that other breeders also will take advantage of this great genetic opportunity."

Neo-Sho Farms is new to the ET scene, having sold only live cattle in its annual production sale, which ranks among the highest averaging Red Angus sales each year. With a population of 1,200 head from which to choose, herd owner Kirby Lane has handpicked only the most elite individuals as donor cows for this innovative embryo program. These selected females excel in traits for which all Red Angus breeders are looking: efficiency, adaptability, fertility, predictability, uniformity, disposition and performance. Well-aware of the specific needs of commercial cattlemen, Lane manages his purebred herd under commercial range conditions with heavy emphasis on efficiency and functional ability.
