Seven Holsteins Graduate into Select Sires Lineup
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Feb. 14, 2002 — Seven bulls have graduated
into Select Sires’ Holstein lineup after receiving official
evaluations in February from the U.S. Department of Agriculture,
Interbull and Holstein Association USA. This graduating class,
which is sired by six different bulls, enters North America’s
largest active-A.I. lineup of 89 Holsteins.
"This class of seven graduates offers producers an interesting
variety of choices, with strengths ranging from calving ease to
milk components to breed-leading type," says Ron Long, vice president,
dairy sire procurement, Select Sires. "While each of these individuals
is extreme in several categories, we’ve only graduated those sires
that provide the sound balance of production and type that producers
prefer. So whether people are producing milk for a high-components or
fluid market, or whether they seek improved type for the show ring or
to improve longevity, they know they can trust these Select sires to
provide a balance of what their herds need."
Two New High-Ranking Sires
Debuting in the breed’s top 50 for Type-Production Index (TPI™)
with +1576, 7HO5862 Liberty-Inc Duster LUCK-ET*TV is a high-type
(+2.02 Predicted Transmitting Ability for Type) son of Pen-Col
DUSTER-ET. He was bred by Liberty Holsteins Inc., Eminence, Ky.,
and joins his well-regarded maternal brother, 7HO5592 Wil-Hart E
LOUIE-ET*TV, in the Select Sires lineup. From three generations of
Very Good, Gold Medal Dams, LUCK has a high Productive Life value
(+2.6) and strong production credentials highlighted by protein
(PTA +1,367M +.03%P +47P +503 Cheese Merit Dollars). He excels in
type traits that make an economic difference for producers: udders
(+2.15 UDC) and feet and legs (+1.49 FLC). LUCK is transmitting high,
wide rear udders, strongly attached fore udders and close front teat
placement, as well as feet and legs that track correctly and provide
good mobility.
7HO5886 Pasen Prescott MONROE-ET*TV begins his active-A.I. career
tied with the breed’s No. 2 TPI sire - 7HO5851 Sikkema-Star Air
MAGNA-ET*TV - as Select’s highest Holstein for fat (+95 PTAF). Backed
by three generations of Excellent Dams of Merit that produced large
quantities of high-fat milk, MONROE is continuing the family tradition
as shown by his PTAs of +1,293M +.19%F +95F +.02%P +42P +519 CM$.
Bred by Matthew P. Senita, Wattsburg, Pa., he joins his popular sire,
7HO4152 Kenjo PRESCOTT*TV, in the Select Sires lineup. Producers can
use MONROE (+1502 TPI) to improve dairy strength, straighten legs,
strengthen the loin, and enhance rear-udder width and udder cleft.
Three New SUPERIOR SETTLERs
An early son of Startmore RUDOLPH-ET, 9HO2517 Glen-D-Haven Rudolph
JETTA*CV has a high Productive Life value of +3.0 and many other
traits that will interest producers. He was bred by Paul and Jackie
Glende, Altura, Minn., and is from two generations of Very Good Dams

SETTLER™ offers a balance of production (PTA +1,567M +31F +46P +463 CM$)
and outstanding type (+1.88 PTAT, +1.81 UDC). JETTA sires scale,
improved depth of heel, and shallow udders with high rear attachments
and strong fore attachments.
Also earning the elite distinction of SUPERIOR SETTLER, 7HO5975 Lexvold
Highlight HARMON-ET*TV continues the tradition of his father - 7HO3257
HIGHLIGHT Mr Mark Cinder-ET*CV - by siring extraordinary udders
(+2.21 UDC) and overall type (+2.42 PTAT). From three generations of
Very Good Dams of Merit with more than 32,000 pounds of milk, HARMON
was bred by Larry Lexvold, Goodhue, Minn. He has a TPI of +1415 and

calving-ease score of 7 percent difficult births in heifers, as well
as his ability to sire dairy, open-ribbed daughters with wide rumps,
well-attached udders with a deep center ligament, and feet and legs
with good mobility.
Another popular calving-ease sire (6 percent DBH) will be 7HO5804
Sandy-Valley RICKY*TV, a 7HO4161 RICKland Laban Projector son that
sires high milk components. Bred by David, Patrick, Gregory and Frank
Jr. Bauer, Scandinavia, Wis., this SUPERIOR SETTLER is from three
generations of high-producing, Very Good, Gold Medal Dams that tested
higher than 4 percent for fat in successive lactations. RICKY’s PTA
values for production (+1,319M +.05%F +60F +.02%P +44P +368 CM$), coupled
with one of the highest feet and leg composite scores at Select Sires
(+2.44), give him a TPI of +1428. RICKY will transmit extremely steep
foot angle (+3.16S), straighter legs that track squarely, udders that
are well above the hocks and have high, wide rear attachments,
and medium stature.
Sires Destined to Create Customer Satisfaction
