Ohio State Student Named Intern at Leading U.S. A.I. Organization


PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Sept. 13, 2002 — Duane Leonhard, Mt. Gilead, Ohio, has been selected as the corporate communications intern for Select Sires, Plain City, Ohio. In this role he will assist with media-relations activities and work on other communications projects. From September through June he will be based in the Select federation’s headquarters office in Plain City.

Leonhard is in his fourth year at The Ohio State University (OSU), Columbus, Ohio, majoring in agricultural communications with a minor in animal sciences. An active member in the university’s Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) club’s promotions committee, he helps organize meeting agendas and arrange contacts with communications professionals.

Leonhard has earned the American FFA Degree, FFA’s highest award for excellence, as well as a National FFA scholarship. In 2001, he interned with Professional Farmers of America on its crop tour throughout the Corn Belt. He also has exhibited dairy feeder calves and dairy steers for 10 years. Leonhard is the son of Harold and Lee Ann Leonhard, Mt Gilead, Ohio, who own and operate a 100-cow Holstein dairy operation.

Based in Plain City, Ohio, Select Sires Inc. is a federation of 10 farm-owned and -controlled cooperatives.
