Three New Gold Medal Sires
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Sept. 13, 2002
— Three Holsteins at Select Sires have earned Gold Medal (GM) recognition from Holstein Association USA, Brattleboro, Vt. Two sires receiving the exclusive Gold Medal designation - which is awarded to approximately 25 sires each year -while still in Select's active-A.I. lineup are 7HO4937 Wa-Del BUBBA-ET*TV, bred by Rick L. Wadel, Shippensburg, Pa., and 7HO4951 Vir-Clar MEADOWLANE*TV, bred by Clarence and Gary Boyke, Fond Du Lac, Wis. 7HO6131 Regancrest Emory DERRY-ET*TV, bred by Regancrest Farm, Waukon, Iowa, also is a new GM sire and has a limited supply of semen available.
With these new GM designations, there now are 14 Gold Medal sires in Select's Holstein lineup.
To qualify for permanent Gold Medal recognition, a sire must meet stringent Type-Production Index (TPI™) requirements, have a minimum reliability of 90 percent for both Predicted Transmitting Ability for Fat (PTAF) and Predicted Transmitting Ability for Type (PTAT), and must be free of undesirable recessives and enzymes.
Producers quickly can obtain additional details about these three new Gold Medal sires as well as up-to-date production and type data on all 89 Holsteins in the Select Sires lineup from one single source - www.selectsires.com. This information is free to producers and others interested in obtaining information about breed-leading Holstein sires. In addition, people can contact the Select Sires representative nearest them for more details.
Select Sires is a federation of 10 farmer-owned and -controlled cooperatives. It provides excellence in sires, service and programs to achieve its basic objective of supplying livestock breeders with America's best genetics at a reasonable price.
