Highly-Reliable DURHAM Sons
Result of PGA Sampling

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, March 1, 2005 — With the addition of 7HO7075 Savage-Leigh LELAND-ET*TV (Excellent-93) to its February 2005 Holstein lineup, Select Sires now is marketing semen from five proven sons of 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV. All five were sampled through the Program for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™). Because of this national sampling program, these sires graduated with high production reliabilities, ranging from 88 to 96 and averaging 93 percent reliability.

"With over 60 sons sampled and more to come, Select Sires can be very selective in releasing only the best, most highly reliable DURHAM sons that will fit various niches in the market," says Charlie Will, Select Sires Holstein Sire Program Manager. "Our first proven DURHAM sons are all out of high-producing 'Excellent' dams and the five have Predicted Transmitting Abilities for Type (PTAT) that range from +1.61 to +2.34, placing all of them in the top 15 percent of the breed for PTAT. Add the success that DURHAM daughters experienced on the tanbark last fall, resulting in 13 nominations and six All-American and Reserve All-Americans, more than any other sire, it's no wonder why these DURHAM sons already are in high demand."

Most-Widely Sampled DURHAM Sons in the Industry

With only his third USDA sire summary, 7HO6782 Ocean-View ZENITH-TW-ET*TV is at an extremely high 96 percent reliability with 533 daughters in 330 herds. ZENITH was a widely used PGA SUPER SAMPLER™ because his dam is the much-admired Excellent (95) Ocean-View Mandel Zandra. ZENITH is among the top 15 at Select Sires with a PTAT of +1.74 (94% Rel.) and a Holstein Association (HA) Udder Composite Score of +2.17 UDC. ZENITH typically sires tall daughters that are dairy with long bodies, wide rumps and good mobility. He adds udders that are shallow with a great cleft and close teat placement. Also a SUPERIOR SETTLER™, he balances this type with solid milk components of +.09% Fat and +.05% Protein plus significant management traits at 2.63 Somatic Cell Score (SCS) and +1.7 Productive Life (PL).

Released last August, 7HO6761 Creek Durham SHANE-ET*CV is No. 6 at Select Sires with +1.95T (92% Rel.). Now with 374 daughters evaluated in 235 herds, SHANE generates a strong linear type appraisal with extremely positive Standard Transmitting Ability (STA) values of +2.13 Stature, +1.97 Dairy Form, +1.41 Body Depth, and +2.10 Fore Attachment, placing him among Select's top 20 for each of these traits. SHANE comes from two generations of Excellent (90-2E-GMD-DOM) dams with milk production records of 49,000 and 42,000 pounds, respectively.

A popular release in November, 7HO6758 Regancrest-MR Drham SAM-ET*TV now has 297 daughters in 177 herds (94% Rel.) He is Select's third-highest type sire at +2.34T (91% Rel.) with HA type scores of +1.53 UDC and +2.18 Feet-and-Legs Composite (FLC). This is supported by a solid linear type appraisal graph with all bars to the right, featuring an extreme STA index of +4.21 Legs Rear View (No. 3 in breed) in addition to a +2.08 Feet and Legs Score and values at +1.99 for fore udder attachment and +2.41 for rear udder height. With PTA yield values of +641M +.05%F +37F +.02%P +24P, this former SUPER SAMPLER* ranks on Holstein's Top 100 list with a Type-Production Index (TPI™) at +1578. An added bonus, MR SAM is out of a 7HO3948 MJR Blackstar EMORY-ET daughter and completes six generations of Excellent dams from the "Saturday" family.

A physically impressive four-year-old DURHAM son, 7HO7075 Savage-Leigh LELAND-ET*TV is scored Excellent (93). A popular SUPER SAMPLER out of Savage-Leigh Bellwood Linda (EX-92-2E-GMD-DOM), LELAND graduated this past month with 155 daughters in 103 herds (90% Rel.). He balances positive components (+.08%F +35F +.01%P +16P) and a low 2.66 SCS with a +1.82T, ranking him among Select's best 10 for type. He has been designated as a Herdlife Builder™ because his daughters are tall, open-ribbed cows with dairy strength, very wide rumps plus an ideal leg set and snug fore udders that are indicative of long life.
