Select Sires Graduates Are Tops




PLAIN CITY, Ohio, August 9, 2005 — Select Sires graduated four bulls with Predicted Transmitting Ability for Type (PTAT) values higher than +2.00, including the second highest bull in the breed.

"7HO7004 Erbacres DAMION*TV is No. 2 in the breed with an impressive +2.92 PTAT (89% Rel.). The only higher-ranking Holstein is 7HO5841 Sikkema-Star-W HI METRO-ET*CV with a +2.96 PTAT (98% Rel.)," says Scott Culbertson, Holstein sire analyst, Select Sires. "DAMION has sired the best group of young-sire daughters I have ever seen, based on first-crop progeny including those of his sire, 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET."

As anticipated, DAMION graduated with a highly reliable proof based on 105 classified daughters in 65 herds. He is a line-bred DURHAM son from Regancrest Encore Dalhia-ET, a Very Good (89) 9HO1833 Marcrest ENCORE daughter. The next dam is Snow-N Denises Dellia (EX-95-2E-GMD-DOM). DAMION combines the frames of ENCORE with the udders and feet and legs of DURHAM. He is one of very few proven sires that are higher than +2.00 on each of the four Holstein composite scores with +2.37 Udder Composite (UD), +2.30 Feet-and-Legs Composite (FL), +2.80 Body Composite (BD), and +2.63 Dairy Composite (D). DAMION also is a proven calving ease (CE) sire with only 7 percent difficult births in heifers (DBH).

Also among the breed’s top new type improvers is 7HO7081 Jeffrey-Way TRYOUT*CV. At +2.51 PTAT (79% Rel.), this DURHAM son excels for composites with +2.61UD +1.65FL +1.56BD +1.55D. His dam is Jeffrey-Way Hunter Teardrop (EX-94-3E-DOM). She is the highest-scored 7HO3847 Ameldin II Pontiac HUNTER daughter and produced 7-0 365d 50,760M 4.0% 2,042F 3.0% 1,533P. The next dam is an Excellent (91-3E) daughter of 7HO980 Walkway Chief MARK. Finally TRYOUT has been named a HerdLife Builder™.

Ranking fifth at Select Sires for type, 7HO7071 LE-O La Emerson Classic-TW*TV stacks a Select Sires pedigree that has generated a balanced package of solid production (+1,269M, 86% Rel.) with customer-pleasing type (+2.27T, 84% Rel.). LE-O has a high +1630 Type-Production Index (TPI™) ranking him among the top 50 on Holstein’s Top-100 list. He is one of three proven 7HO6250 Ricecrest EMERSON-ET*BL*TV sons in the Select’s program. His dam, a 7HO4638 Ricecrest Tesk TERRY daughter, and his HUNTER grandam are both Very Good 2-year-olds with records over 28,000 pounds of milk and 1,000 pounds of fat. LE-O daughters are silky-hided with quality udders.

7HO6918 Regancrest-RH BARRY-ET*CV anchors the list of new +2.00 type sires with a +2.18T +2.13UD +1.27FL +1.79BD +2.32D (81% Rel.). He sires tall, fancy individuals with ideal dairy strength, exactly as expected from a DURHAM son out of three generations of Excellent dams. BARRY’s dam is an Excellent (92) Ked JUROR-ET with two daughters that scored Very Good (89) as two-year-olds. BARRY’s full sister, Regancrest-PR Barbie (VG-89), was nominated All-American junior 3-year-old in 2004. Expect BARRY to sire type that lasts and type that shows.
