Select Sires Adds Eight New Sires to Holstein Lineup
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Nov. 15, 2005 — Select Sires introduced an updated lineup of 90 Holstein bulls to dairy producers after reviewing the USDA quarterly release of genetic evaluations Nov. 14. The just-released lineup includes five spectacular sons of the popular sire father 7HO5375 Mara-Thon BW MARSHALL-ET*TV and another breed-leading type-specialist son of Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET, the three-time Premier Sire at World Dairy Expo.
"Select Sires is just beginning to harvest the genetic superiority of MARSHALL through his sons. Our five new graduates provide our customers with options to improve their herds for milk production, components, udders, feet and legs and for calving ease on heifers," said Blaine Crosser, vice president of dairy sire product line and customer service for Select Sires.
"Our most elite TPI™ (+1792) MARSHALL son, 7HO7156 Honeycrest ELEGANT-ET, died prior to being proven but will have a limited amount of semen available for flushing and special matings."
With nearly 200 daughters in his proof, 7HO7193 Raggi Marshall DESIGN-ET*CV is a proven sire for high milk yield (+1,863M +43P 92% Rel.). DESIGN also combines a Predicted Transmitting Ability for Type of +1.62 with an overall +1645 TPI (83% Rel.). This SUPERIOR SETTLER™ and Herdlife Builder™ is also a maternal brother to the popular sire father 7HO7264 Raggi Mtoto MAN-ET (+1713 TPI). His dam, a full sister of 7HO5841Sikkema-Star-W HI METRO-ET (+2.85T 99% Rel.), made over 40,000 milk with 4.4% fat.
Full-brother MARSHALL sons 7HO7180 FAR-O-La Mar Sable Shane-ET and 7HO7183 Far-O-La Mar SABLE Shawn-ET*TV hail from a Very Good (88-EX-MS) WINCHESTER dam with nearly 40,000 Milk from the Dellia family.
FAR-O (+1577 TPI 77% Rel.) carries impressive production credentials (+1,643M +40P +60F, 81% Rel.) and sires daughters with excellent stature and dairyness. FAR-O is also a foot and leg improver (+1.81FL).
SABLE (+1546 TPI 79% Rel.) ranks among the elite in calving-ease sires (6%CE) and has the proven ability in building well-attached udders that are high in the rear with excellent width, the type of udders dairymen want (+1.72UD). SABLE brings solid production with +1,340 Milk (89% Rel.) and +62 Fat to rank in Select’s Top 10.
New to the active lineup, 7HO7135 Creek Bwmarshall DAKOTA-ET*TV is an Excellent (90) MARSHALL son siring a balance for production (1,187M 92% Rel.) and type (+1.67 PTAT 83% Rel.). Also a Herdlife Builder and SUPERIOR SETTLER, DAKOTA is a calving-ease specialist that will work well on heifers with a service-sire calving-ease value of only 7 percent difficult births in heifers (DBH) (87% Rel.). His dam is Excellent (91) producing 47,770 pounds of milk, 1,658 pounds of fat and 1,341 pounds of protein that also traces back to Dellia.

MASON is a foot-and-leg improver (+2.83FL 74% Rel.) and udder specialist (+1.96UD) with excellent height and width and strong ligaments. The bull has been designated a Herdlife Builder.
The sire 7HO7218 Pine-Shelter LYLE Vincer-ET*TV debuts as the breed leader for frame traits (+2.52 BD 81% Rel.). It’s no surprise based on his Excellent (95-3E) dam that LYLE is also among Select’s best for Type (+1.78T, +1607TPI). The SUPERIOR SETTLER also ranks in Select Sires’ Top 10 for feet and legs (+2.33 FL 81% Rel.).
