Five New Holstein Graduates in Canada

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Feb. 17, 2006 — Select Sires introduced five new Holstein sires to Canadian dairy producers after reviewing the quarterly release of genetic evaluations Feb. 13, including four spectacular sons of the popular sire father 7HO5375 Mara-Thon BW MARSHALL-ET.

"All of Select’s new Holstein graduates offer an outstanding and broad variety of genetic options for our customers to improve their herds," said Blaine Crosser, vice president of dairy sire product line and sales management for Select Sires.

High-type and breed-leading udder improvement sire 7HO7359 Jenny-LOU Marshall P149-ET debuts with an impressive +2.72 PTAT and +2.42 UDC (76% Rel.) and an equally stunning +1,400M (85% Rel.). LOU is a BW MARSHALL son from a Very Good (89) 9HO1729 Brabant Star PATRON-ET daughter who produced a top record over 45,800 pounds of milk. His Very Good (88) full sister has over 36,000 pounds of milk as a 3-year-old. LOU sires attractive and durable daughters with above-average width and power. Expect striking udders, well-designed feet and legs, and strong open frames.

Dairy producers will also like total performance improver 7HO7334 Canyon-Breeze HRL ARTIC-ET (+1715 TPI™, +1.77 PTAT 81% Rel.) ARTIC debuts at No. 25 on Holstein Association USA’s Top TPI Bulls list for sires with at least 80% Reliability for both production and type. ARTIC is from a cow family famous for power, strength and width and brings exceptional udders (+2.01 UDC 81% Rel.) with plenty of milk (+1,523M 91% Rel.).

New graduate 7HO7466 Robthom MOSCOW-ET (EX-91) is also a top proven sire for high milk yield at +1,476M and 2.83 SCS (85% Rel. and 68% Rel.). With a +1.83 PTAT beside an excellent +1.74 UDC and +1.91 FLC, MOSCOW should meet the needs of dairy producers looking for high milk production and improved udders, feet and legs. His dam, an Excellent (92) 7HO4213 Robthom INTEGRITY-ET daughter, milked over 53,000 at 5-7.

Breeders looking for high components and profit markers along with outstanding conformation have new choices in Select’s lineup. Debuting with a high +2.47 PTAT (81% Rel.) is BW MARSHALL son 7HO7037 Regancrest-RB MILES-ET. MILES is from the Dellia cow family and has extreme components (+.04%P +12P +.19%F +51F) and an udder-improving +2.46 UDC. Expect MILES to sire cows that get better with age and improve cheese markets and herd profitability.

Breeders looking for udder improvement should also check out 7HO7285 Regancrest-HHF Max-ET. This sire’s +2.47 UDC is shown in his daughters through great shape and veining. From the heart of the Dellia cow family, HHF balances milk, components, health traits and type to build the kind of cows dairy producers want.
