Jersey and Milking Shorthorn Lineups




PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Feb. 21, 2006 — Select Sires added three Jersey and one Milking Shorthorn bulls to the active-A.I. lineup following quarterly proof reviews Feb. 13. The three Jersey sires are graduates of Select’s Program for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™) young sire sampling program.

7JE670 C-Bar Hallmark GERONIMO makes a spectacular debut as the highest Milk bull in the breed at +2,089 (81% Rel.) and is second-ranked for both PTAP (+53P) and JPI™ (+237 66% Rel.). GERONIMO has an exciting +447 NM$ and a highly respectable +429 CM$ to add profit in the bulk tank, plus +1.4PL (47% Rel.) and +0.6DPR (44% Rel.) for adding long-lived and productive cows to the herd. GERONIMO pulls from his pedigree, which includes popular sires 7JE290 WF/L&M Duncan BARBER-ET and 7JE159 Soldierboy Boomer SOONER of CJ, and produces exceptional daughters who are tall with well-supported and capacious udders.

Graduate 7JE667 Mason Lemvig JACINTO-ET is Select’s highest Lemvig son for PTAT (+1.3 58% Rel.) and has a high +189 JPI, ranking him among the Top 20 on the breed’s index. This sire carries positive components (+.07%P +.06%F 77% Rel.) and comes from an Excellent (92) dam with an outstanding 24,000-pound milk record with 4.0% Protein at 2-3. JACINTO boasts strong health traits with a 2.89 SCS and +1.5PL (59% and 46% Rel.) that have earned him Herdlife Builder™ status. He sires long-lived and profitable daughters with extremely snug fore udders, excellent rear udders, and correct feet and legs.

7JE681 Lynvail TELMARK-ET makes an impressive debut as the No. 3 JPI bull in the breed at +225. This sire features a complete balance of unique genetics and exceptional components and ranks No. 5 in the breed for Cheese Merit (+498CM$ 76% Rel.). He is also tied for fifth for PTAP (+.05% P +50P) and adds to his profit potential with 469NM$. TELMARK also carries a high +1.9 Productive Life (43% Rel.) and sires daughters with excellent dairy strength and outstanding, well-attached udders with strong ligaments.

Milking Shorthorn sire 7MS342 Vinra Peerless FROLIC joins the active sire lineup as the breed’s best profit performer with a leading +284NM$ and +288CM$ (57% Rel.) and breed-topping +132 PTI. FROLIC hails from two generations of 26,000-pound milk dams, both scored Excellent, with his granddam completing her sixth consecutive record well over 20,000 pounds at 14-2. FROLIC shows his family’s longevity with +1.7PL (36% Rel.) and +0.3DPR (33% Rel.) and is siring daughters who produce volumes of high-component milk from well-attached udders carried high above the hock.
