Select Sires Adds Eight High-Components Breeds Graduates



PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Jan. 22, 2008 — Following the January 15 release of genetic evaluations, Select Sires updated its high-components breeds active-A.I. lineup with eight new elite graduates, including the new breed-leader for Jersey Performance Index™ (JPI™). “Summary after summary, Select Sires continues to meet the needs of today’s dairy producers with high-ranking, diverse genetics,” said Blaine Crosser, vice president of dairy sire product line and sales management for Select Sires. “Our updated high-components breeds lineup features leaders in every breed.”

DALE: The New King of JPI, Milk and Protein
7JE768 OomsDALE Jace Gratit Garden-ET enters Select’s active-A.I. lineup as the breed leader in JPI, Milk and Protein. At +297 JPI, this early 7JE535 Windy Willow Montana JACE son pulls away from the rest of the industry by 20 points. He also tops the breed for both Milk yield (+2,483) and Protein (+73) and ranks fourth among Jerseys for Fat (+83) and fifth for Cheese Merit (+$514). Not since the days of 7JE254 Mason Boomer Sooner BERRETTA has a bull been so dominant in his first proof. Due to his untimely death, only a limited amount of DALE semen is available.

More New Graduate Jersey Highlights
Another JPI all star, 7JE738 BHF-SSF Parade LOUIE-ET stands among the Top 10 for JPI at +230. He also ranks among the Top 25 for Jersey Udder Index™ (JUI™) at +5.58. A 7JE472 BW PARADE-ET son, LOUIE is seventh in the breed for Protein (+55) and with +1,601 Milk and +$406 Cheese Merit, his daughters pay the bills.

Debuting with elite JUI (+4.91) is 7JE730 MVF Kulp SJ Pmount SULTON. Sired by 7JE442 Rock Ella PARAMOUNT-ET, SULTON’s dam, MVF Barber Sooner J 484 (E-92%), produced more than 30,000 pounds of milk and 1,700 pounds of fat. He specializes in health traits (2.80 Somatic Cell Score, +2.9 Productive Life and +0.4 Daughter Pregnancy Rate) and carries the HealthMark™ and Herdlife Builder™ designations.

New release 7JE748 O.F. Advent RAIDER-ET hails from the famous Rebekah cow family, known for outstanding production deviations and consistent classification scores, from Owens Farm in Wisconsin. With +5.31 JUI, +1,202 Milk and +62 Fat, RAIDER transmits long-term profitability. He is the highest ranked Molly Brook Poseidon Adventure son available in the breed and is an ideal mating to Maid bloodlines. Another new graduate backed by a world-renowned cow family is 7JE749 SHF 14K GOLD-ET. The Golden family lays the foundation for this +4.99 JUI sire. GOLD’s dam, Ferreira Mannix Goldengirl-ET (VG-86%) sold for $30,000 as a calf, and the grandam, Golden MBSB of Twin Haven-ET (E-94%), is a previous world-record fat leader and dam of 7JE510 GOLDEN BOY of Ferreira.

Party’s Son PARKER Graduates to Active-A.I. at Select
7BS779 Brothers Three PARKER ET *TM impresses as the No. 4 sire in the breed for Type at +1.1. PARKER is sired by R Hart Simon Ensign ET and his dam is the popular show cow Top Acres Coll Party “2E93 2E92MS.” Party was named reserve grand champion at World Dairy Expo in 2003 and is the highest selling female at public auction in Brown Swiss history at $86,000. A fresh, 2-year-old PARKER daughter sold for $9,500 at the 2007 New York National Sale and several heifers have already enjoyed success in the show ring.

Introducing Altann’s Newest Son: Health-Trait Specialist ALSTAR
The new breed-leader for Daughter Pregnancy Rate (+1.2 DPR) is Select’s new Guernsey graduate 7GU398 Sniders Ronalds ALSTAR. ALSTAR is also second among Guernseys for Productive Life (+3.3). His superior fitness traits, combined with solid production and type performance make ALSTAR the breed’s No. 2 Net Merit sire at +$290. His maternal cow family is anchored by the Excellent (95-EX-93-MS-GSD) national grand champion dam, Cedar Fringed Altann. She has produced several All-American nominations and four Excellent maternal sisters to ALSTAR. He is making an early mark on the tanbark, siring the grand and junior champions of the Ohio State Fair junior show in 2007.

Exciting New Ayshire Sire, CANNON, Joins Select’s Lineup
7AY79 Palmyra Jerry’s CANNON is an elite milk bull (+787 Milk) with excellent health traits (2.62 SCS, +2.0 PL and +1.0 DPR). His maternal line, the Charm family, is known for outstanding production and longevity. CANNON’s dam, Palmyra Recruiter’s Charming-ET (VG-87-ELITE), calved for the fifth time as a 6-year-old and has always produced more than 23,000 pounds of milk, including one record of 34,610 pounds of milk, 1,243 pounds of fat and 1,085 pounds of protein. This very early Kildale Jerry-ET son is known to sire medium-sized frames and functional traits.
