Eric Seiler, Wisconsin Dells, was this year’s scholarship winner that will be continuing into his second year of study in the Farm and Industry Short Course program with a concentration in dairy farm management. A graduate of Portage High School, Seiler actively assists his father and uncle in the operation of their 250-cow dairy.

First-year students awarded scholarships were Levi Bruins, Waupun; Justin Daniels, Kansasville; Theodore Halbur, Fond du Lac; Maci Jo Hoesly, Brodhead; Andrew Rickert, Eldorado; Richard Roden, West Bend; and Adam Shannon, Richland Center.

Bruins grew up on his family’s 100-cow dairy in Waupun. While a student at Waupun High School, Bruins participated in 4-H and FFA, holding officer positions and winning awards of achievement such as the FFA Greenhand and State Degree awards. He donates time to many community efforts, including his church youth group and local junior Kiwanis.

Daniels, a recent graduate of Central High School, enjoys breeding and raising his own swine and beef animals to exhibit at regional and state shows. He has earned numerous awards with his animals, including many showmanship awards. In addition to working on his family’s dairy farm, he is also an eleven-year member of 4-H.

Halbur has also been involved in 4-H for nine years, holding many officer positions, while remaining active on his family’s dairy. A recipient of the 4-H Key Award, Halbur has attended Citizenship Washington Focus and National 4-H Congress. He also participates in county, state, and national Holstein Association functions and has received a junior Progressive Breeder Award.

Hoesly is a graduate of Juda Public High School and was very active in her FFA chapter where she held numerous offices. She also completed several supervised agricultural experience projects including dairy, swine, poultry, and livestock production. Hoesly continues to assist her parents on her family dairy and in her spare time enjoys dairy cattle judging.

Rickert, a graduate of Winnebago Lutheran High School, currently is an assistant herdsman on his family’s 500-cow dairy. A 10-year member of 4-H, Rickert has earned many awards of leadership and participation, including trips to Citizen Washington Focus in D.C. and National 4-H Congress in Atlanta. He is also very active with the Wisconsin Junior Holstein Association where he currently serves on the Junior Activities Committee.

Roden currently works on his family’s 235-cow dairy near West Bend. While attending West Bend High School, he was very active in 4-H and FFA, holding offices in both organizations. He also completed ag courses offered by another school district because his own school didn’t offer an ag program. In the future, Roden aspires to some day operate the farm and expand the current dairy operation.

Shannon credits his interest in agriculture to his early years spent on his grandparents’ farm. He currently helps his parents operate the farm, and in the future hopes to own and operate a successful Jersey grazing farm. While attending Richland Center High School, he was very active in both 4-H and FFA.
