New Program: Select Reproductive Solutions™
Transcript of Select Sires' Reproductive Moment Program
on DairyLine Radio Which Aired Aug. 18, 2005 With Ray Nebel, Extension Specialist and Professor of Reproductive Management, Virginia Tech
Select Sires is launching a new program this fall entitled Select Reproductive Solutions. Ray Nebel is here to tell us about it.
Select Reproductive Solutions is really a new program to go along with Select Sires' two established programs, SMS™, or Select Mating Service™, and PGA™, Progeny Testing Program [actually Program for Genetic Advancement™]. This Select Reproductive Solutions will form one of the building blocks for the company in the reproductive arena, as far as consulting and all the tools that they will provide to producers.
What are the different services?
The Select Reproductive Solutions program will include the professional technician service that is available to some of the members, the systematic heat-detection program such as tail striping, and heat detection training. All the training materials they have in both English and Spanish. They have a new CD called Infovets® that was developed. They have professional A.I. training schools that are put on. We are working on records analysis and reproductive consulting. The PFA program, or Program for Fertility Advancement, is on the male side, and is used in herds across the country to develop fertility enhancement from the male side. They have such devices as Estru$ Alert®, KAMAR® Heatmount™ Detectors and tail paint that they sell for the heat-detection program, and there are other products such as Select BIOCYCLE™, Select BIOCYCLE PLUS™, and BIOFRESH™ Bolus that they also use to go through transition to help the cows to combat different digestive and mycotoxin problems.
In a nut shell that’s pretty much all of what Select Sires does?
Up until now, I think that most people looked at select sires as a company that supplies genetic material and excellent advice on the usage of this material. But the climate has changed in the last ten years. Dairy herds are getting larger, and the complexity of getting cows pregnant is not as easy as it once was, so we are now moving into this arena, where turning that straw into a pregnancy is becoming more and more important.
For those listening, what can they do to get more information?
Well, it is really just being introduced this fall. So, starting now, in national magazines you’ll see the Select Reproductive Solutions logo, and each one of the ten cooperatives that forms the federations of cooperatives for Select Sires, Inc. offers these different products. Some might not have professional A.I. technicians, but most of the other products are offered through these different coops. So contacting your cooperative member in your area would be a way to get involved in the Select Reproductive Solutions programs.
Thank you Ray, that’s Ray Nebel from Select Sires.
