With Dr. John Radosevich,
EDP Bio Tech Corporation
With us this week is Dr. John Radosevich from EDP Bio Tech Corporation. Dr John, you are here to tell us a new way to determine conception in a cow.
Well, good morning, Bill, and good afternoon to some of our listeners. This idea, to determine conception in a cow shortly after breeding, has been an idea for many years. The scientists at Concepto Diagnostics have re-identified a glycol protein that is released when the sperm penetrates the ova in the cow’s oviduct shortly after breeding. This glycol protein was then used to make an antibody that makes this test unique. By being able to identify this glycol protein, the dairy man or the veterinarian can identify those cows that are an economic detriment to the dairy. Early knowledge will get the dairyman, A.I. technician, or the veterinarian the tools he hasn’t had before to make a judgment on the cow. The test will answer the questions: Should I start my short-cycling therapy to get another breeding into her within the twenty days? Or should I just get rid of this cow at the end of this lactation? When done correctly and accurately, this test will identify those cows that didn’t conceive with up to 96 to 98 percent accuracy. Remember this is not a pregnancy test. It only confirms conception. The test is easy to run, but must be done accurately and in a room that is free of a lot of commotion. All of the ingredients -- the milk or the serum and the test kit -- must be at room temperature. If using milk, it must be taken from one quarter only before striping, and must be thoroughly mixed before putting it on the test well on the test cassette. Concepto, now named EDP Bio Tech Corporation, is determined to acquire more field-testing, and is developing instructional meetings and standing behind the diagnostic kit and every way. I am available for one-on-one presentations, talking on the phone to potential users, and any other way to give you more information. Because this kit is fairly technical, it is available through your veterinarian or other professional companies that are devoted to the welfare of your cow and are determined to increase your income by getting rid of those cows that aren’t paying their way. I invite each and every one of you to visit me at the EDP booth at the World Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, in October. More information can be had by calling me, Dr. John Redosevich, at (209) 848-2858, or calling our office at (865) 246-0514 and talking to Jim Simpson or Tommy Jordan.
