Total Type Improvement

The May evaluations document that Select Sires has the industry’s genetic edge for type improvement, with seven of the Holstein breed’s top 10 sires for PTAT. 7HO6352 ELAND still outdistances all Holstein sires at +3.48 PTAT, and leads Select’s group of 23 type specialists that are all higher than +2.00 for PTAT. Of these, seven have both udder composite (UC) and feet-and-legs composite (FLC) scores higher that +2.00, including ELAND, 7HO5157 DURHAM (+2.88 PTAT), 7HO8419 APPROVAL (+2.76 PTAT), 7HO5592 LOUIE (+2.72 PTAT), 7HO3948 EMORY (+2.05 PTAT), 7HO6247 ELATION (+2.17 PTAT) and 7HO5211 BLACKBART (+2.09 PTAT).

It is also significant that five of these seven (ELAND, DURHAM, APPROVAL, LOUIE and 7HO6131 DERRY) are higher that +2.00 for all four Holstein Association USA composites. These five are the only Holstein sires to meet these criteria.
