Select-Sired Daughters Win At Western Show
The following show winners sired by Select Sires bulls took top
honors at the Western Spring National Show, Richmond, Utah: Miss

first fall yearling, Halbach Holsteins, Tucson, Ariz., ENCORE.
High-Scoring WINCHESTERs
GBM Holsteins, Wis., recently classified, with two 7HO4637 Ladys-Manor
WINCHESTER-ET daughters scoring Very Good (87).
Five WINCHESTERs at Regancrest Holsteins, Iowa, also recently
scored Very Good (85) or better.
EMORY Daughter Produces Fat record
Junge Emory Fudge-ET (VG-85), a 7HO3948 MJR Blackstar EMORY-ET daughter
owned by Junge Farms Inc., New Tripoli, Pa., recently finished a
national fat record of 3-1 3X 365d 47,000M 5.2% 2,435F 3.0% 1,424P.
Super Young BLITZ
Steve McCrosky, Bristal, Va., has an outstanding 7HO5708 Fustead Emory
BLITZ-ET daughter with a mature-equivalent record of 27,168 pounds of
milk and 4.0 percent fat. One of his top heifers, she recently scored
Good Plus (81) with a Very Good (85) udder and a perfect "50" for foot angle.
LUXURY Daughter Scores EX
Marshallane Luxury Easter, a 7GU339 Trotacre Jay Mr LUXURY-ET daughter,
scored Excellent (90) for Paul Hansen, New Lisbon, Wis.
Select-Sired Daughters Win At Ohio State Fair
The following Select-sired daughters were first in their classes at the
Ohio State Fair, Columbus, Ohio, in August:

EMORY Wins In Vermont
An Excellent (93) daughter of 7HO3948 EMORY-ET, from Juniper Genetics,
Gray, Maine, was reserve grand champion at the Vermont State Holstein Show.
EMERSON Daughter Now 91
Ben-Akers Emily, a daughter of 7HO6250 Ricecrest EMERSON-ET*BL, is now
EX-91 with an EX-92 udder. She is owned by Amos Benedict, Chambersburg, Penn.
PARADE & PARAMOUNT Daughters Score Excellent
Osborn Brothers, Nolensville, Tenn., are milking a 7JE472 BW PARADE-ET
daughter that recently scored Excellent (91).
Another dairy, Tennessee Genetics, is milking an Excellent (93) 7JE442 PARAMOUNT
daughter that was evaluated recently by American Jersey Cattle Association appraisers.
Select's NAAB Representatives
In August, Dr. Don Monke was named vice chairman of the National Association
of Animal Breeders (NAAB). Bill Ramsey, president of COBA/Select Sires from
Louisville, Ohio, also serves on the NAAB board and will represent the
organization on the Council for Dairy Cattle Breeding.
7HO6131 DERRY Passes Away
7HO6131 Regancrest Emory DERRY-ET, Excellent (94), died unexpectedly
on Friday, Aug. 3. After graduating into active-A.I. service in
February 2001, DERRY quickly became popular for his ability to
transmit extraordinary type along with high components. He was
sired by 7HO3948 EMORY-ET*TL and out of Snow-N Denises Dellia*TL
(EX-95-GMS-DOM). A limited supply of DERRY semen is available from
Select Sires and its 10 member cooperatives.
New Red-and-White Choices
With high components, solid type and good production, and backed
by a deep cow family, new graduate 7HO5785 Sure-View Adon ADAM-RED-ET
is creating interest among breeders of red-and-white cattle. Daughters
in both the United States and Switzerland contribute to his PTAs of
+685M +.05%F +36F +.04%P +31P +262CM$ and +1.26 PTAT. At +1246 TPI-M,
ADAM-RED ranks among the top 10 red-and-white sires.
VALIANT Leads The Guernsey Breed For Type

With a linear that is "black to the right," he sires tall, dairy front
ends with a nice balance of strength, depth and width. In addition,
daughters have a steep foot angle and udders that are held high with
superior attachments.

Jersey Great Dies At Select Sires In August
7JE254 Mason Boomer Sooner Berretta died in his
stall on Aug. 20 at 12 years, 5 months of age. Since
graduating into active-A.I. service in July 1993, BERRETTA
was used extensively, yielding 21,525 daughters in his current
production proof. As chronicled in the July 2001 Jersey Journal,
BERRETTA made history as one of the breed's most extra- ordinary
sires of outstanding production and type.A limited supply of BERRETTA
