SELECTIONS - Fall 2001
Select Sires Federation
Donation to Dairy Foundation
Yields $123,000
The 10 member cooperatives of the Select Sires federation
have pledged contributions that will yield $123,000 for the
Holstein Foundation as part of its Future Leaders Campaign
endowment initiative. The interest income from these contributions
in perpetuity will help fund leadership development for dairy youth,
young adults and farm families representing all breeds of dairy cattle.
The Foundation’s professional-development, education and outreach
programs offer a wide variety of grassroots-based opportunities
for interested participants.
"The generous contributions from the Select Sires member cooperatives
have put us well on our way to reaching the $1 million goal set for
the Future Leaders Campaign," says Donna Beal, executive director,
Holstein Foundation. "This campaign, which will almost triple the
size of the Foundation’s endowment fund, will provide a stable source
of financial support to maintain long-term program quality. We truly
are greatful for the significant contributions being made by industry
leaders like the Select Sires federation."
In addition to member-cooperative contributions to the Future Leaders
Campaign, Select Sires Inc. has pledged $6,000 to Holstein Foundation’s
Family Farm Campaign. It also has provided ongoing financial support
for the Foundation’s Young Dairy Leaders Institute since its inception
in 1994.
"The foundation’s commitment to help educate and train future generations
of dairy leaders is benefiting both the dairy industry and rural America,"
says Dave Thorbahn, general manager, Select Sires Inc. "It’s critical that
A.I. companies and other agribusinesses join with dairy producers to support
organizations like the Holstein Foundation, helping prepare tomorrow’s
industry leaders. As the largest A.I. organization headquartered in North
America, Select Sires is pleased to be part of this positive outreach."
