Saacke Visits Select Sires

Dr. Dick Saacke and Clif Marshall, vice president, production, discuss semen-thawing techniques over one of Select's many storage tanks.

While Select Sires long has been known for the high quality of semen it makes available to dairy and beef producers, the production department continuously looks for ways to improve both the quality and quantity of our products. That’s why earlier this year Select hosted Dr. Dick Saacke, retired professor from the dairy science department of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va. Saacke is an expert in the fields of bovine reproduction and fertility, with specialties in semen-preservation methods, light and electron microscopy, and the identification of semen traits that are important to sperm transport and storage in females.

During his time at Select, Saacke observed semen-preservation techniques, looking for ways to help us continue to optimize semen quality and minimize semen loss.
