SELECTIONS - Summer 2002
Select Sponsors Dairy Challenge
Fourteen teams competed in the first North American
Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge, hosted at Michigan
State University, East Lansing, Mich., in April. The
competition consisted of four-person teams that evaluated
practices at a large dairy and then recommended management
enhancements to a panel of judges.

and Rita Albrecht, Joni Heins, Scott Miller and Alicia Thurk
(University of Minnesota). Each of these team members
received a $500 scholarship. |
"The NAIDC is a one-of-its-kind event for students with an
interest in dairy science, because it allows them to apply
theory and learning to a real-world dairy while working as
part of a team," says Dave Thorbahn, chairman of the NAIDC
steering committee. "Another unique aspect of this contest
was the many built-in opportunities for networking with
representatives of the 28 companies who sponsored the NAIDC."
Select Sires was a platinum sponsor, contributing $5,000
along with Cargill Animal Nutrition, DeLaval, Monsanto Dairy
Business and Pharmacia Animal Health. Twenty-three other
companies that service the dairy industry also sponsor the contest.
