Selections and Sirloin Tips Celebrate 30 Years

Selections and Sirloin Tips are celebrating their "pearl" anniversaries this year, with 30 years of providing Select customers with information about industry- and production-related topics. First printed in 1972, Selections communicates with dairy producers about Select’s genetics programs and services, while including information about individual bulls and reproduction tips, and a letter from the general manager. Sirloin Tips offers similar content for beef producers.

Second-Crop BUBBA Successes

Second-crop daughters of 7HO4937 Wa-Del BUBBA-ET*TV are doing well throughout the country. LaClar Bubba Sophia, owned by Dan Koester, Dakota, Ill., and Church-Site Bubba Cocoa-ET, owned by Joe and Jim Wautier, Brussels, Wis., now are classified Very Good (86) and Very Good (87), respectively. Two daughters with high 305-day mature-equivalent projections for milk production are Lake-Effect Bubba Willow (37,240 pounds) and Lake-Effect Bubba Star (32,991 pounds) for owners, Jeff and Gayle Benedict, Lake Effect Holsteins, Pulaski, N.Y.

Holstein World Type Issue & DURHAM

In conjunction with its annual type in January 2003, the Holstein World is sponsoring a special advertising section to promote the successes of 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV daughters. Editorially, the issue will include a story about the Snow-N-Denises Dellia’s sons, which undoubtedly will discuss his extraordinary second-crop daughters. Advertisers placing a one-quarter-page advertisement about their DURHAM daughters will receive five units of DURHAM semen ($200 value) and a special cap. Those placing a one-half-page or larger advertisement about their DURHAM daughters will receive 10 units of DURHAM semen ($400 value) and a cap. BEAVER Daughters Start Off Well

Eckeldale Beaver Cherel, owned by Eckeldale Farms, Blossvale, N.Y., recently scored Very Good (85-VG-VG-MS). Curr-Vale Beaver 2221 a Good Plus (84-VG-MS) daughter of 9HO2704 Coyne Farms Patron BEAVER*TV, has produced 1-10 328d 3X 27,960M 4.1% 1,148F 2.9% 821P. She is owned by Currie Valley Farm LLC, Tully, N.Y.

DURHAM Daughters Show and Sell

Tobis Durham Tiara-ET*CV topped the Convention Warm-Up Sale, held J une 22 in Intercourse, Pa., when she sold for $22,600 to James High and Partners, Strasburg, Pa. Ernest Kueffner, Boonsboro, Md., consigned the October calf.

Rgncrst-RH Durham Bliss*TV, owned by Aaron Palmer, Waukon, Iowa, was grand champion of the Iowa State Fair junior show, and first-place junior 2-year-old and honorable mention intermediate champion of the open show.

More Very Good TILLER Daughters

Three daughters of 7GU360 Trotacre Loral TILLER-ET were appraised Very Good for Cline Brubaker, Rocky Mount, Va. They are Blackwater Tiller Lois, Very Good (87); Ritawa Tiller Heidi, Very Good (84); and Blackwater Tiller Paula Very Good (82).

High-Producing WINCHESTER

A daughter of 7HO4637 Ladys-Manor WINCHESTER-ET*TV, Merry Casey Wiley-ET, produced 1-10 365d 3X 42,121M 3.9% 1,660F 2.9% 1,217P. Owned by Fly-Higher Holsteins LLC, Valley Falls, N.Y, and housed at Kings-Ransom Farm, Schuylerville, N.Y., Wiley recently scored Very Good (86) and is from the same maternal family as 7HO5996 Merry Cleo B-W CLEM-ET*TV.

FORBIDDEN, DILLON Daughters

Black Pine Forbidden Grace earned a point in final score to become Very Good (85-EX-91-MS). Richard and Sandy Byham, Saegertown, Pa., own this 7HO5687 Sandy-Valley FORBIDDEN-ET*TV daughter. Before selling in the Sept. 25 Eastern Elite Sale, Lu-Jado Dillon Lyric moved up two points to Very Good (85-VG-86-MS) for owner, Donald Caldwell, Saegertown, Pa.

Very Good CHIME

Mil Neu Chime Tessina, a second-crop daughter of 7BS715 Rolling View Jetway CHIME ET owned by Nick Uglow, Hartland, Wis., is now Very Good (86).

ACHIEVER-RED in Switzerland

7HO6104 Peck-Valley ACHIEVER-RED-ET*TV is the highest-ranking sire for milk in Switzerland. He places fifth among red bulls in Switzerland for GZW (an index similar to TPI).

New Highest-Scoring INTEGRITY

Van-D-K Integrity Paradise, supreme champion of the 2000 World Dairy Expo, owned by Mark Rueth, Jefferson, Wis., and Kent Van Dyk, Lynden, Wash., now is the highest-scored daughter of 7HO4213 Robthom INTEGRITY-ET*TV. She recently became Excellent (96-EX-98-MS).

High-CPI GLACIER Daughter

A 7GU343 Rozelyn Patmar Jay GLACIER-ET daughter owned by Forrest Keefer, Wawaka, Ind., Riverwood Glacier Kuku, Very Good (86), is 12th on the AGA’s August Cow-Performance Index list. Kuku has records with 5.5 percent fat, 3.7 percent protein.

High-Scoring DECLO Daughter

MVF Declo Danielle 771-ET, a 2-year-old 7JE386 Barbs MBSB DECLO daughter, recently scored Excellent (90). She is owned by Erika D. Rhein, Pine Grove, Pa.

EMORY Daughters in Virginia

Park Forest Farm, owned by Bill Blalock and managed by Joe Pruett, Baskerville, Va., has 12 milking daughters of 7HO3948 MJR Blackstar EMORY-ET*TV, that average 82 points in final score and 2-year-old ME projections of 26,396 pounds of milk.
