New TPI Formula from Holstein
Holstein Association USA has instituted a new TPI formula, effective in November
2002. While similar to the previous one, the new formula places additional emphasis
on pounds of fat, functional type and somatic cell score. According to the November
2002 "Red Book," the formula’s increased emphasis on udder composite, overall
type and somatic cell score coincides with a growing interest in health traits
and those traits that are directly related to producing cows that will remain
in the herd longer.
