BULLetin BOARD
MARSHALL Daughters Doing Well
Orthapple Marshall Alia-ET, a daughter of MARSHALL,
recently was scored Very Good (89). She is owned by
Sandy-Valley Farm, Scandinavia, Wis. Alia is producing
125 pounds of milk a day and has two bull contracts with
Select Sires.
Walhowdon Farms Inc., Lebanon, N.H., report two of their
MARSHALL daughters are producing more than 100 pounds a day.
The full sisters, Walhowdon Marshall Halo-ET and Walhowdon
Marshall Heidi, are scored Very Good (87) and (85),
respectively.
Gen-Mark BW Winnie-ET, Very Good (85-VG-87-MS) topped the
Kissamee Summerfest Sale when she sold for $10,000 to Mark
Henning, Macedon, N.Y. Markland & GenetiCo, Macedon, N.Y.,
consigned her to the July 21 sale held in Cazenovia, N.Y.
Leading the Summer Event, held July 12 at the Golden Oaks
Equestrian Center, Wauconda, Ill., was Henkeseen
BWM Midnite-ET. Midnite, who has two sons in sampling
and sold with several Japanese contracts, was purchased for
$27,500 by Darrell Richards, Goshen, Ind. She was consigned
by Trent and Leslie Henkes, Luana, Iowa.
EXCELLENT Jerseys
Recently scoring Excellent (90) are Five J Jace Bunnibelle,
sired by JACE and owned by James R. Maurice, Conover, Ohio;
Twinbill Golden Poplar, a GOLDEN daughter owned by Douglas
R. & Rhonda Billman, Burbank, Ohio; DAE Brooks Barbra, a
7JE290 WF/L&M Duncan BARBER-ET daughter owned by David Ertl,
Wooster, Ohio; and Jenks Paramount Polly, a PARAMOUNT
daughter owned by Jim Jenks, Buhl, Idaho.
Select Genetics Top Guernsey Sales
Select Sires was well-represented at several spring Guernsey
sales. At the Ozark Jubilee Sale, Branson, Mo., 7GU322
Trotacre Mercury LORAL-ET daughter Lone Acres Loral Polly
topped the sale when she sold for $4,500 to Faria Farms,
Escalon, Calif. Bruce and Monica Kipp, North Prairie, Wis.,
were the consignors. Luxury Bliss of Lavon Farms-ET,
a 7GU339 Trotacre Jay Mr LUXURY-ET daughter consigned by
Lavon Farms, Plano, Texas, was the second-high seller when
she was purchased for $3,800 by Ernie Berousek, Yukon, Okla.
Another LUXURY daughter was the second-high seller at the
Pennsylvania Blue Halter Sale, Bedford, Pa. Gold Banner
Luxury Glossy, consigned by Eugene Martin, Chambersburg, Pa.,
was purchased for $4,100 by Ed Gill, Creston, Ohio.
Rolling Prairie N Ruthann, daughter of PGA sire 7GU381
Lang Haven Luxury NEON, sold for $7,000 at the June
National Convention Sale. Consigned by the Dan Walther
family, Garnavillo, Iowa, Ruthann was junior champion for
new owners Chupp, Dudte, Green and Yeoman, Wooster, Ohio,
at the Ohio State Fair.
DURHAMs Excel at Shows
Two daughters of 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV
made headlines at the Ohio State Fair. Broadmeade Durham
Kelly Very Good (89-EX-92-MS), owned by Express Show
Cattle and Stan-Mar-Dale Holsteins and Michael Heath and
Jeff Stephens, Urbana, Ohio, was intermediate champion,
and Lah-Dale Durham RACEY, Very Good (87-EX-MS), Rick Lahmers
and Kassi Krebs, Stone Creek, Ohio, was reserve intermediate
champion.
At the Minnesota State Fair, Poplar-Bend Durham Molly,
Excellent (93), was senior and reserve grand champion
for Rodger and David Freise, Wanamingo, Minn.
PGA Results
Palmyra Recruiter Ginger, Very Good (89), is sired by PGA
graduate 7AY60 Covey-Arms Ramses RECRUITER. Owner Mary
Shank-Creek, Hagerstown, Md., has been pleased with her
PGA results. "Using PGA young sires is the quickest way
to improve the genetics in our herd as well as the breed.
We've seen increased production plus an improvement in our
number of elite-list cows and bull mothers. We're using
PGA young sirs on our very best cows to keep the genetic
interval turning as fast as it can."
In 2002, more than 300 Holsteins were sampled through the program,
and Select is committed to annually sampling more than 350 bulls
of the six dairy breeds through the Program for Genetic Advancement.
Excellent MASCOT Daughter
Johann Mooney, a 7BS733 Misa Jetway MASCOT ET daughter
owned by Johann Acres, St. Marys, Ohio, recently scored
Excellent (90).
Very Good STORMY Daughter
Nor-Bert Stormy Keanna, Jeremy Dankert, Bremen, Ind.,
sired by 7HO8428 Nor-Som STORMY*TV, now is Very Good
(86-EX-MS).
BUBBA Daughter Excellent
Church-Site Bubba Cocoa-ET, a 7HO4937 Wa-Del BUBBA-ET*TV
daughter owned by Church-Site Farm, Brussels, Wis., now is
Excellent (90-EX-91-MS).
FORBIDDEN Daughter Milking
DeBoer Forbidden Snowflurry (VG-88-VG-MS) completed a
lactation of 2-10 365d 43,329M 5.9% 2,597F 3.7%
1,584P. The daughter of 7HO5687 Sandy-Valley
FORBIDDEN-ET*TV ranks No. 4 on the CTPI list at +2183TPI.
She is owned by Paul DeBoer, Corona, S.D.
HI METRO Calf Junior Champion
Dirigo Hi Metro Charie-ET, sired by HI METRO, was junior
champion at the Maine State Holstein Show. Charie is owned
by Dirigo Holsteins, Auburn, Maine.
O MAN Daughters in North Carolina
Myers Dairy Inc., Jonesville, N.C., owned by Dwayne and Barbara
Myers, are milking 15 first-crop O MAN daughters that are the
result of using SUPER SAMPLER™ semen randomly in the herd.
According to the Myers, the O MAN daughters fit the model of cow
that works best in their herd, which has a rolling herd average
of 27,024 pounds of milk, 1,008 pounds of fat and 849 pounds of
protein on 831 cows. Above from left are, Greg Casey, Select Sire

National Heifer Sale Select-Led
Three Select-sired heifers led the National Heifer Sale,
held during the Jersey annual meetings in Columbus, Ohio.
Buttercrest Paramount Goldrush, a PARAMOUNT daughter
consigned by Tom Cooperrider, Croton, Ohio, brought a high
bid of $8,500 from Lisa Martin, Gratiot,Wis. The second-high
seller was a 7JE488 Long Distance Barber BARKLY daughter,
SHF Barkly Gold-ET. She was consigned by George and Karen
Hanford, Marcellus, N.Y. and purchased for $7,600 by Tom
Hartman, Hamburg, Pa. Buster Goff, Hobbs, N.M., paid $7,300
for the third-high selling heifer, Nobledale Klassic Sheila-ET.
The daughter of 9JE172 Eastglen Alf KLASSIC-ET was consigned
by Stuart and Elaine Noble, Gillett, Pa.
Of the 77 heifers sold that day, the 31 Select-sired animals
averaged $3,079 per head. This was a $746 advantage above the
other 46 heifers, which averaged $2,333.
Select-Sired Guernseys Win Shows
Grand champion at the Minnesota State Fair was Strauch Farms
V Marysue (EX-90-EX-92-MS) for Jon Lantz & Ron Strauch,
Ellsworth, Wis. This 7GU358 Lantz Farm Enhancer VILTER-ET
daughter was honorable mention All-American senior
2-year-old in 2002.
7GU371 Jens Gold Sentry ONWARD-ET daughter, Marodore Onwards
Everlasting (VG-88) earned reserve grand champion honors in
the Ohio State Fair junior show for Seth Kohler, Baltimore,
Ohio. This cow also appears in a group scenic photo for the
month of May in the 2004 Select Sires calendar.
