BERRETTA Daughters Sets Record

Mainstream Berretta Joy, a Very Good (88) daughter of 7JE254 Mason Boomer Sooner BERRETTA owned by Melissa Kortus, Lynden, Wash., set the world record for Jersey milk production when she completed her 4-9 lactation of 365d 44,930M 5.0% 2,267F 3.4% 1,516P. With this record Joy also becomes the first Jersey cow to complete two consecutive records over 40,000 pounds of milk in American Jersey Cattle Association production-testing history.

FORBIDDEN National Leader

DeBoer Forbidden Snowflurry, Very Good (88-VG-MS), is the national leader for fat production among senior 3-year-olds with 3-10 365d 43,320M 6.0% 2,590F 3.7% 1,583. The daughter of 7HO5687 Sandy-Valley FORBIDDEN-ET*TV is owned by Paul DeBoer, Corona, S.D.

Very Good JORDAN-RED

Hurtgen-Vue Jordan Judy-Red is now Very Good (85-VG-MS). Hurtgen-Vue Dairy, Monroe, Ore., owns the daughter of 6HO0817 Ja-Bob JORDAN-RED-ET*TV.

Excellent WINCHESTER

Poly-Kow Winchester Bobbi-ET scored Excellent (91) for Aurora-Ridge Dairy, Aurora, N.Y. Bobbi is sired by 7HO4637 Ladys-Manor WINCHESTER-ET*TV.

OTHELLO Daughter Named Wisconsin Cow of the Year

Sterryan Style 445301, a daughter of 7MS340 Kuszmar Alfairs OTHELLO, was named the 2003 Wisconsin Cow of the Year by the Wisconsin Purebred Dairy Cattle Association. Style is owned by Ryan Sterry, Osseo, Wis.

OTHELLO was awarded the Ted Krueger Premier Sire award at this year’s World Dairy Expo.

DECLO Intermediate Champion

Piedmont Declo Belle, a Very Good (85-Can.) daughter of 7JE386 Barbs MBSB DECLO, was named intermediate champion at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. She is owned by Gary and Maureen Bowers, Coaticook, Quebec.

Select-Sired Cows Top Sales

The top-three selling consignments at the Holstein World Century Celebration Sale, held Aug. 6 in Waterloo, N.Y., were all progeny of Select bulls.

Leading the sale at $50,000 was a clone of Vandyk-K Integrity Paradise, Excellent (2E-96-E-98-MS). Paradise, a daughter of 7HO4213 Robthom INTEGRITY-ET*TV, was supreme champion of the 2000 and 2002 World Dairy Expos. The December calf was consigned by Vandyk-K, Lyndale, Wash. & Rosedale, Deerfield, Wis. and was purchased by the Century Syndicate, Kuna, Idaho.

Following the high seller at $18,000 was a first-choice heifer sired by 7HO6349 Hidden-View BEST*TV and out of Ever-Green-View Elsa-ET. Jeff Woods and Don Rottinghaus, Madison, Wis., were the successful bidders on the consignment from Ever-Green View, Waldo, Wis.

Markwell Metro Darcy, a September 2002 daughter of 7HO5841 Sikkema-Star-W HI METRO-ET*CV, was the second-high selling live animal at $16,700. Roger and Wayne Sherwood, Meshoppen, Pa., purchased the heifer from Marvin and Mark Van Mersbergen, Lynden, Wash.

At the Ocean-View Harvest of Excellence Sale, held Sept. 13 at the Ocean-View farm in Windsor, Calif., a daughter of 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV topped the sale when she sold to Spring Hill Farm and Starmark, Big Prairie, Ohio. Ocean-View Durham Jewel, Very Good (88), was purchased for $35,000.

Ocean-View Eland Zindra-ET, Very Good (88-EX-MS), a first-calf heifer sired by 7HO6352 Four-Of-A-Kind ELAND-ET*TV, was purchased by Morris Thelan, Ponoka, Alberta, for the second-high price of the day, $30,000.

Both animals were consigned by Ocean-View Farms.

Premier Performance Jersey

JEMI Madam Pitino, Excellent (93), was Premier Performance Cow of the 2003 All American Junior Jersey Show, Louisville, Ky., for owner R.J. Doran, Newberry, S.C. She is sired by 7JE342 Altheas Les Pitino Al-Top-ET.

Select-Sired Guernseys Excel

Three Select-sired Guernseys recently set class-leading records. Lantz Farm Tiller Icy, Excellent (91), excels among junior 3-year-olds with 3-3 365d 39,100M 5.4% 2,106F 3.4% 1,383P. The daughter of 7GU360 Trotacre Loral TILLER-ET is the No. 1 CPI cow of the breed and has a pending bull contract for the Select Sires Program for Genetic Advancement™. She is owned by Spring Walk Farm, Big Prarie, Ohio.

7GU358 Lantz Farm Enhancer VILTER-ET daughter, Strauch Farms V Marysue, Excellent (90), was first senior 3-year-old at the National Guernsey Show-Louisville. She also completed a class-leading record with 2-7 365d 30,150M 4.6% 1,373F 3.4% 1,033P for owners Lantz & Strauch, Ellsworth, Wis.

Sniders Tyler Besett, Very Good (87), owned by Spencer Weimer, Emlenton, Pa., produced 2-11 305d 3X 28,920M 4.7% 1,363F 3.1% 906P, placing her among senior 2-year-olds. The daughter of 9GU148 Trotacre Enhancer TYLER-ET was also nominated All-American junior 3-year-old in the 2002 junior division.

MATHIE Daughter Showing Well

Da-Co-Ton Mathie Doodle, Very Good (88), was grand champion of the South Dakota State Show for owners Da-Co-Ton Holsteins, Parker, S.D. She is sired by 7HO3707 Paradise-R Cleitus MATHIE*CV.

Brown Swiss Production Winner

Elm Brook Ice Jocelyn, Very Good (85), a daughter of 7BS729 R Hart Chillers CUBE, is the winner of the Brown Swiss Association’s Youth Production Award Contest. She produced 3-3 365d 39,390M 3.3% 1,292F 2.9% 1,159P for owner Amber Yurkanin, Columbia Crossroads, Pa.

Excellent PARADE Daughter

Freys Parade Trixie, a daughter of 7JE472 BW PARADE-ET owned by Norse Star Jerseys, Westby, Wis., is now Excellent (94).
