Ohio Teen Injured by Bull
Jason Day, 17, of Richmond Dale, Ohio, has a 10 percent chance of walking again after being attacked by a bull.
In April, while working on a neighboring farm, Day was charged from behind by the bull. He was thrown in the air and landed on his shoulder and neck, sustaining serious injuries to his neck, back and spine.
Day was airlifted to The Ohio State University Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit, where he underwent surgery. Two weeks after his surgery, he was upgraded from critical to serious condition. Day’s family remains hopeful that he will make a full recovery, and doctors predict he may be home by mid-July. The community has pulled together to help the Day family prepare for his homecoming by building handicapped accessible ramps at the Day’s home.
Advantages of using artificial insemination instead of a herd bull are great, and include improved reproductive performance, genetic advantage, control of factors such as inbreeding, recessives and calving ease, and most importantly, safety. We at Select Sires wish Jason and his family the best during his recovery.
