A New Era

Select Sires has entered a new era as Select Reproductive Solutions™ (SRS™) joins our highly respected and successful branded programs, PGA™ and SMS™. This program provides our customers with additional resources in a portfolio called Select Reproductive Solutions.

Just as PGA, our young sire sampling program, and SMS, the world’s most popular mating program, are recognized as the cornerstones of Select Sires success, SRS is a foundation block on which Select Sires will continue to build future success for our producers.

In the early 1990s Select Sires recognized that helping you achieve genetic success would also require helping you achieve reproductive success. In the words of reproduction specialist Mel DeJarnette, “the genetic value of a calf that is never born is zero”. Under Mels leadership improving reproduction became a high priority. We ramped up our reproductive resources and reproductive education program, and in 1999 we began a reproductive certification program for Select’s sales and service people. We developed a group of Select Reproduction Solutions Specialists at each of our member organizations to provide training and reproductive consulting on the farm. We challenged our folks to grow on the reproductive side to help you and they are meeting that challenge.

Today reproduction is recognized as the first thing we have to consider in order to help you take advantage of our outstanding Select Sires genetic product. Hundreds of Select Sires people are involved in systematic heat detection programs and estrus synchronization projects. We have more people than ever that are competent in herd records analysis and reproductive troubleshooting. With the hiring of the highly respected reproductive expert, Dr. Ray Nebel, to work with Mel DeJarnette, Select Sires has made a commitment to be the A.I. industry’s absolute best at providing what you need to make pregnancies in your herd. These two senior reproduction specialists, working closely with our field SRS specialists from each of our member organizations, will assist you in finding solutions to reproductive challenges.

Select Reproductive Solutions is a portfolio of reproductive services, products, programs and consulting that can be utilized to help you solve reproductive problems in your herd.

While many of these services are not new, the way they will be packaged, talked about and combined will be. The goal with SRS is to bring all of the programs, services and products that help to get a cow pregnant into the SRS Portfolio of Reproductive Solutions. Examples of what is in this Portfolio of Reproductive Solutions include:
  • Professional technician service
  • Systematic heat detection programs such as tail striping
  • Systematic heat detection training
  • Reproductive training resources in English and Spanish
  • Other information resources such as our new Infovets® CD
  • Professional A.I. training
  • Records analysis and reproductive consulting services
  • Our Program for Fertility Advancement™ (PFA™) that improves the male side of the reproductive equation
  • Reproductive trouble shooting
  • The use of heat detection aids such Estru$ Alert®, KAMAR® and tailpaints used in systematic programs
  • And nutritional products such as BioCycle™, BioCycle™ Plus and BioFresh™ Bolus and Soluble


All of these programs, products and services and many more to come will be part of the SRS toolbox. We recognize that one size does not fit all. That is why SRS is a customized approach, choosing the best combination of these tools for each individual herd to help you find reproductive solutions.
