Select Sires' Holstein Stars Soar at World Dairy Expo

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, October 19, 2010 - The Select Sires Holstein lineup shined at the International Holstein Show and International Junior Holstein Show held at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis. Fourteen Select-sired offspring placed among the top five of their class in the open show, while in the junior show several champions were sired by 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV (EX-90-GM) and 7HO7872 KHW Kite ADVENT-RED-ET (EX-94). In addition, the World Classic Sale featured several top sellers out of Select-sired bulls.

Select Sires dominated the spring heifer calf class with six of the top eight calves sired by five different sires. The sires of these spring heifer calves were DURHAM, 7HO8221 Golden-Oaks St ALEXANDER-ET (EX-91), 7HO9165 Regancrest S BRAXTON-ET (EX-94), 7HO8175 Windy-Knoll-View PRONTO-ET (EX-95) and the high genomic Super Sampler™ 7HO10506 Maple-Downs-I G W ATWOOD-ET (VG-87). Winning the class was DURHAM daughter, Sco-Lo Durham Molly-TW, owned by John Cannon, Graisson Schmit and Kurt Wolf, Dyersville, Iowa.

Other top-five finishers throughout the heifer and cow classes were sired by 7HO8190 Gen-Mark Stmatic SANCHEZ (EX-94), 7HO7004 Erbacres DAMION (EX-95), ADVENT-RED and Super Sampler 7HO9289 Windy-Knoll-View 4 ACES-ET (EX-91).

In the International Junior Holstein Show, Logsdons Durham Cher (EX-95), owned by Katie Gibson and Michaela B. Sanders, Eminence, Ky., received grand champion honors after being named the senior champion of the show. She is sired by DURHAM and was the winner in the aged cow class. The second place aged cow, Stone-Front Advent Laverne (EX-94), was named reserve grand champion and reserve senior champion. An ADVENT-RED daughter, Laverne, is owned by Shane Nodolf of Belmont, Wis. Reserve intermediate champion honors were awarded to another ADVENT-RED daughter, Scenic-Edge Advent Cocoa (VG-88-EX-91-MS). She was second in the senior 3-year-old class and is owned by Mike Fuller, Rudolph, Wis. The reserve junior champion female who topped the fall heifer calf class was a DURHAM daughter, Ms Duckett Durham Beauty-ET, owned by Cal Dewitt, Clinton, Wis.

International Junior Holstein Show Reserve Grand Champion
At this year's World Classic Holstein Sale, seven Select-sired lots sold for over $13,000 each. Leading the pack of Select-bred animals were two spring heifer calves sired by G W ATWOOD. The No. 1 PA Type heifer of the Holstein breed proves she's the real thing as she sells for $35,500. Duckett-BH Atwood Sheila-ET was consigned by Morsan Farms, Ponoko, Alberta, and was purchased by Sexing Technologies, Fond du Lac, Wis. MS Chassity Atwood Clara-ET brought $32,000 at the sale. Clara is out of Regancrest S Chassity-ET (EX-92-DOM) and was consigned by Chassity Syndicate LLC, Springfield, Ill. She was purchased by Frank and Diane Borba, Modesto, Calif. A third G W ATWOOD daughter, Far-R-La Atwood Angelie-ET sold for $15,000.The Red Carrier from the Altitude family was sold by Dr. Hubertus Diers, Altenberge, Germany and was purchased by Sexing Technologies.

Other Select Sires animals that sold well included daughters of ALEXANDER, ADVENT-RED, SANCHEZ and MILLION. K-Manor Alex Simplicity-ET, an ALEXANDER daughter, brought $20,000. She was consigned by Steve and Janet Keller, K-Manor Holsteins, Verona, Wis., and was purchased by Wilson Martin, Memphis, Mo. The second place spring calf from the Grand International Red and White Holstein Show, MS Starmark Rexy-Red-ET, sold for $14,500. The ADVENT-RED daughter is out of the 2007 All-American Red and White senior 2-year-old cow, Carrousel Talnt Rily-Red-ET (VG-89). Rexy was consigned by Starmark, Wooster, Ohio, and was purchased by Chilliwack Cattle Co., Chilliwack, British Columbia. Rosedale Petal Rose-ET sold for $13,200. Sired by SANCHEZ, she is the daughter of the 2005 Supreme Champion, Lavender Ruby Redrose-Red (EX-96-3E). Consigned by Rosedale Genetics LTD, Mark Reuth and Nicky Reape, Oxford, Wis., Rose was purchased by Bos Dairy, Fair Oaks, Ind. Selling for $13,000 was Bo-Irish-RN Mill Brazil-ET, a 7HO8165 England-Ammon MILLION-ET (EX-92) daughter. The spring calf is a maternal sister to Super Sampler 7HO10219 Dream-Prairie Shadow BOXER (VG-86). Brazil and BOXER are out of Regancrest Gold Bretta-ET (VG-88-DOM), the No. 6 Genomic Total Performance Cow™. She was consigned by Gary Housner and Ronald Suhr, Elroy, Wis., and was purchased by Sexing Technologies.
