Thorbahn Leads Select Sires
into a New Era

David Thorbahn, New General Manager

On January 1, 2000 Select Sires began an exciting new era with David Thorbahn at the helm as General Manager. He joined Select on August 31, 1999 as Assistant General Manager to prepare to take over the reins of the leading U.S. A.I. cooperative.

In his first four months at Select Sires, Thorbahn learned as much as he could about what he terms "the recognized leader of the A.I. industry." He travelled to each of the federation’s ten member cooperatives throughout the United States and took the opportunity to see the cooperative’s success in a ction. "Select has a reputation for great products, programs and people. The success Select has enjoyed comes as a result of deliberate action and decisions made by a very capable group of people." It is those people he turned to in developing a better understanding of the Select system, culture and goals.

Now, as the co-op’s General Manager, Thorbahn’s short-term goal is to complete a smooth transition of management. Priority will be placed on developing a long-range business plan that stays the course of diligent financial management while integrating the industry’s newest technologies to bolster Select’s dominance. Looking ahead, Thorbahn comments, "We will look favorably upon occasions to partner with solid agricultural companies that provide synergistic opportunities. Select’s strong position allows us to look positively at the changes ahead in our industry."

Thorbahn brings to Select Sires’ headquarters in Plain City, Ohio his expertise in sire development, marketing and sales management. He has considerable experience in leading change, financial administration and team building; skills that will undoubtedly contribute to Select’s continued success in the ever-changing face of A.I. His recent M.B.A. training will be an asset to the cooperative as it continues to serve its members with sound business decisions to deliver America’s Best genetics to the global marketplace.

As an Ohio State University graduate, Thorbahn and his family return to their roots planted deep in the state. He brings a new generation of leadership to the country’s leading A.I cooperative as it is poised to take on the challenges of the new millennium.
