Six Graduate Into A.I. Industry's Largest Lineup of Holstein Sires
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Nov. 28, 2000 - Six newly proven Holstein sires
have graduated into the A.I. industry's largest lineup of Holstein
sires after receiving official evaluations in November from the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, InterBull and Holstein Association USA.
With four of these graduates sired by 7HO3948 MJR Blackstar EMORY-ET*TL,
Select Sires now has six EMORY sons - the most in the industry - in
its active-A.I. lineup. The other two graduates are sired by Hard-Le
DARKSTAR-ET*TL and Ked JUROR-ET*TL.
"This group of six graduates has already demonstrated the ability to
reliably transmit solid production along with extraordinary type, which
is why three of them debuted on the Holstein Association's top 100 list
for Total Performance Index (TPITM)," says Ron Long, vice president,
dairy sire procurement. "The four sons of 7HO3948 EMORY will be of
particular interest to dairy producers, since they are among the first
proven EMORY sons available, and they duplicate his ability to transmit
production from strength."
The Next Generation of EMORY-Like Results
Select's highest-ranking graduate for TPI at +1542 is 7HO5592 Wil-Hart E
LOUIE-ET, an EMORY son out of a Gold Medal Dam. E LOUIE is becoming known
as an "udder specialist" because of his ability to sire daughters with
extraordinary udder attachments and teat placement, giving him an udder
composite (UC) of +2.11. He also transmits tremendous frames (+2.23 body
size composite [BC]), correct feet and legs (+1.93 feet-and-legs composite
[FLC]), and dairyness (+2.88 dairy composite [DC]), which translates into
the breed's sixth-highest predicted transmitting ability for type (+2.66 PTAT).
His daughters are producing high volumes of milk, reflected in a predicted
transmitting ability for milk (PTAM) of +1,815 and an index of +472 for fluid
merit dollars (FM$).
A paternal brother that also debuted on the Holstein Association's Top 100
List for TPI is 7HO5630 Nors C Emory CALVIN-ET*TL. With 7HO3257 HIGHLIGHT
MR Mark Cinder-ET*TL as a maternal grandsire, CALVIN is from two generations
of Very Good (88) Dams of Merit with more than 40,000 pounds of milk and
1,600 pounds of fat. A PTAM of +2,004 puts him in an elite group of Holstein
sires that literally transmit tons of milk. In addition, he has scores that
are higher than +1.20 in all four type composites: +2.10 DC, +1.60 BC,
+1.26 UC and +1.22 FLC, generating a +2.09 PTAT that indicates producers
can use CALVIN to attain all-around improvement in their herds.
9HO2344 Whittail-Valley COOPER-ET*TL, another EMORY son, is out of a Stardell
Valiant WINKEN-ET*TL Dam of Merit that produced several records of more than
24,000 pounds of milk with 4.1 percent or higher fat and 3.2 percent or
higher protein tests. He is one of a few sires that rank well in calving ease at
8 percent, yet also transmit extreme stature and strength. COOPER is one of
the breed's best at siring tightly attached udders (+3.47 udder depth) and
outstanding teat placement, which contributes to his high rankings for
productive life (+1.8 PL) and somatic cell score (+2.88 SCS). Many Holstein
breeders will mate COOPER to small, frail cows to add strength, improve
udders and increase components.
The fourth EMORY son graduating into active-A.I. service is 7HO5615 Art-Acres
EMORY KEN-ET*TL. Out of a Madawaska AEROSTAR*TL Dam of Merit with more than
35,000 pounds of milk, EMORY KEN continues a family legacy of high production
with a PTAM of +2,063. Like other EMORY sons, he sires tall, strong cattle
(+2.39 BC) that walk on outstanding feet and legs (+1.32 FLC). In addition,
EMORY KEN daughters have superb udders (+1.29 UC) with particularly high and
wide rear attachments.
Two More Graduates Higher Than +1400 TPI
Sired by DARKSTAR, 7HO5567 Keidel Darkstar PLUTO-ET is out of a Dam of Merit
with more than 32,000 pounds of milk. His daughters are becoming known for
their well-attached udders that are carried high above the hocks with a deep
cleft, thereby giving PLUTO scores of +2.08 for UC and +1.87 for PTAT. Also
contributing to his +1440 TPI are high values for PTA Protein (+.03 percent,
+51 pounds). PLUTO sires medium-sized, dairy cattle, which makes him an
ideal choice when mating tall, strong cows that need udder improvement.
7HO5631 NEYER Juror Mildred*TL - a JUROR son - is one of only a few proven
sires from two generations of Dams of Merit that produced more than 50,000
pounds of milk, 1,700 pounds of fat and 1,300 pounds of protein. NEYER's
credentials show that he transmits high milk production (+1,909 PTAM),
dairyness (+2.15 DC) and sound type (+1.87 PTAT). In particular, his
daughters are wide, deep-bodied cows that have well-attached udders with
good udder cleft (+2.35). NEYER has established a trademark of siring
hard-working, sound offspring, which contributes to his TPI of +1411.
