Two Jersey Young Sires Ready for Components Markets
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, April 16, 2001
— Two Jersey young sires - 9JE214 Ferreira Mannix VIPOR-ET, bred by Travis Ferreira, Lemoore, Calif. and 7JE588 Sunset Canyon DECLARATION-ET, bred by Eric Leonard Silva, Beaver, Ore., have been chosen to enter Select Sires' Program for Genetic Advancement (PGA) sire-sampling system. Based on their outstanding pedigrees, VIPOR and DECLARATION are two of 33 Jersey bulls from throughout the United States to enter the program in 2001. In addition to being sampled through PGA Cooperator herds, these young sires have been identified as Super Samplers. With this designation, their semen is available to all Jersey breeders who want to increase the butterfat yield in their herds.
A son of Rock Maple Brook MANNIX, VIPOR is out of Golden MBSB Of Twin Haven-ET. Known to Jersey breeders as "Golden", she is the World Record Butterfat Champion at 4 years, 1 month of age with a 365 day record of 34,876 pounds of milk, 2,421 pounds of fat and 1,424 pounds of protein. Golden is also the No. 2 Production Type Index (PTI) cow of the breed. A maternal sister to VIPOR topped the 2000 All-American Jersey Sale at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) at $40,000.
Breeders in search of another source of components can consider DECLARATION. A son of the high production sire 7JE386 Barbs MBSB DECLO, DECLARATION is out of Tenn Haug E Maid (EX-93), the No. 1 Predicted Transmitting Ability for Fat (PTAF) cow in the breed. The Maid family consistently has produced records with butterfat test greater than 6.0 percent and as high as 7.5 percent.
Based in Plain City, Ohio, Select Sires Inc. is a federation of 10 farmer-owned and controlled cooperatives. It provides highly fertile semen as well as excellence in service and programs to achieve its basic objective of supplying livestock breeders with America's best genetics at a reasonable price.
