Elite Cow Family Source
of Guernsey Young Sire
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, April 16, 2001
— 7GU380 Hot Shot CHARLES, a young Guernsey sire bred by Andrew Fritsche, New Ulm, Minn. and acquired from United Guernsey Genetics, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, has been chosen to enter Select Sires' Program for Genetic Advancement (PGA) sire sampling system. Based on his outstanding pedigree, CHARLES has been selected as one of seven Guernsey bulls from throughout the United States to enter the program in 2001. In addition to being sampled through PGA Cooperator herds, this young sire has been identified as a Super Sampler. With this designation, his semen is available to all interested Guernsey breeders.
CHARLES, a Myrtlesdale Magic HOT SHOT son, comes from a high testing All-American maternal line that is bred to add more strength and outstanding udders to the Guernsey breed. His dam is Pafarms Harpoon Cherry-ET (EX-90), the Reserve Jr. All-American senior 2-year-old in 1998 and Honorable Mention Jr. All-American 4-year-old in 2000. She is a top 50 CPI cow with 974 pounds of fat and 782 pounds of protein as a 3-year-old. Her maternal sister was the breed's number 1 CPI cow with over 30,000 pounds of milk, 1,203 pounds of fat and 1,052 pounds of protein at two years of age. The next dam is Pafarms Smokey Clareesa-ET (EX-90). Clareesa is the number 35 CPI cow and is a Gold Star Dam with records up to 4.5% fat and 3.8% protein. The third dam recorded a butterfat test at 5.0%. This is a cow family that has the genetic potential to strengthen both the production and the type of the Guernsey breed.
Based in Plain City, Ohio, Select Sires Inc. is a federation of 10 farmer-owned and controlled cooperatives.
