First Valor Son to Enter Guernsey A.I.-Sampling

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, July 6, 2001 — 7GU382 Flambeau Manor V SHERMAN, a young Guernsey sire bred by Gary Van Doorn, Tony, Wis., has been chosen to enter Select Sires' Program for Genetic Advancement (PGA) sire-sampling system. Based on his unique pedigree, SHERMAN has been selected as one of seven Guernsey bulls from throughout the United States to enter the program in 2001. In addition to being sampled through PGA Cooperator herds, this young sire has been identified as a Super Sampler. With this designation, his semen is available to all Guernsey breeders who are interested in adding a new bloodline to their breeding program.

SHERMAN is destined to transmit outstanding type and sound production. His sire, Tamaracks Perfectos VALOR, is one of the breed’s best for Predicted Transmitting Ability for Type (PTAT). VALOR’s full brother, 9GU134 Tamaracks Perfectos VALIANT-ET, is currently the No.1 sire in A.I. for PTAT. The dam of SHERMAN, Flambeau Manor Filmor Suzanne, is a Very Good (87), Gold Star Dam with a 4-year-old record of 27,005 pounds of milk, 1,200 pounds of fat and 989 pounds of protein with a 4.4% fat test and a 3.7% protein test. The next dam, a Very Good (84) Oaklands MERCURY daughter, has produced records testing as high as 5.5% fat and 4.1% protein. The result is a young sire that has the potential to meet the varied needs of the Guernsey marketplace.
