Two Young Sires Bred in Wisconsin to Enter A.I.
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Sept. 27, 2001 — Two Holstein sires — 7HO6958
Ever-Green-View EVAN-ET, bred by Thomas J. Kestell, Waldo, Wis; and 7HO6963
Sandy-Valley BING-ET, bred by the Bauer family, Scandinavia, Wis., have been
chosen to enter Select Sires’ Program for Genetic Advancement (PGA™)
sire-sampling system. Based on their outstanding pedigrees EVAN and BING
are two of 315 Holstein bulls to enter the program in 2001. In addition to
being sampled through PGA Cooperator herds, these young sires have been
identified as Super Samplers™. With this designation, their semen is
available to all Holstein breeders.
EVAN is a Dixie-Lee AARON-ET son. His dam, Ever-Green-View Elsie-ET, is the
third generation in this family to score Excellent and produce more than
48,000 pounds of milk and 1,700 pounds of fat. In fact, as a 4-year-old, the
Excellent (92-EX-MS) Elsie peaked at more than 200 pounds per day on a three
times a day milking schedule. In 365 days, she produced 52,577 pounds of
milk, 2,313 pounds of fat and 1,740 pounds of protein. Elsie is a daughter
of 7HO2236 Emprise Bell ELTON*BL out of Ever-Green-View Le Grant-ET
(EX-90-2E) who has lifetime production credentials of 102,770 pounds of
milk, 3,856 pounds of fat and 3,296 pounds of protein. She is also a Gold
Medal Dam (GMD) and a DOM.
BING is one of the highest Parent Average calves being sampled in A.I.
today. This AARON son is from the heart of one of the most successful cow
families for highly proven sires, the Kaye family at Ricecrest Farms,
Chambersburg, Pa. BING’s dam, Ricecrest Bwood Brianne-ET is the fourth
generation of Very Good or Excellent dams that have produced
more than 32,000 pounds of milk with a 4.0 percent fat test. At 1 year, 10
months, the Very Good (88) Brianne produced 39,770 pounds of milk, 1,711
pounds of fat and 1,353 pounds of protein. This DOM is sired by Maizefield
BELLWOOD-ET*TL and is out of Ricecrest Southwind Kaye-ET. Kaye is a Very
Good (87) daughter of SOUTHWIND Bell of Bar-Lee*TL and is a GMD and DOM.
