Three New Sires Join Industry's Largest High-Components-Breeds Lineup
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, May 29, 2003 — A Jersey sire that debuts in the
breed's top 10 for Jersey Performance Index™ JPI™ and a
Guernsey sire that transmits extreme butterfat are two of three
that have graduated into Select Sires' comprehensive lineup of
high-components breeds. This follows the quarterly publishing of
the dairy sire evaluations by the U.S. Department of Agriculture,
InterBull and breed associations. The Select Sires federation of
10 member cooperatives now markets the industry's largest lineup
of high-components-breeds, which includes 37 active-A.I. sires in
the Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey and Jersey breeds.
"Producers who work with these breeds are benefiting from a wide
array of industry-leading genetics that result from Select's
long-term focus of developing bulls backed by a balance of
production and type," says Jeff Ziegler, dairy sire analyst,
Select Sires. "We rely on strong cow families as the foundation
for the next generation through our progeny-testing program, the
Program for Genetic Advancement™ PGA™. By sampling more
than 50 bulls from these four breeds each year, producers can trust
that Select Sires will continue to deliver proven sires that rank
among the best in their breed."
