Connecticut Student Named Intern at Leading U.S. A.I. Organization


PLAIN CITY, Ohio, June 26, 2003 — Brian Whitlow, Warren, Conn., has been selected as the summer intern for the dairy-sire products and services department at Select Sires, Plain City, Ohio. In this role he will work with the Select federation's 10 member cooperatives by helping them locate, fit and photograph daughters of Select sires. In addition, he will assist with tours and other projects while based at the organization's headquarters office in Plain City.

Whitlow expects to graduate this fall with a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics and a dairy-herd management minor from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, Conn. He is currently the president of Alpha Gamma Rho and vice president of the UConn dairy club. A former state 4-H judging team member, Whitlow has judged county dairy shows, and has shown Holstein and Brown Swiss cattle at the local, state and national levels. The son of Cindy Whitlow, Warren, Conn., and Tom Whitlow, Glasgow, Ky., upon graduation he plans to return to Nutmeg Acres, Warren, Conn., which consists of 50 registered Holstein and Brown Swiss cattle owned by his grandparents, Luke and Trudy Tanner.

Based in Plain City, Ohio, Select Sires Inc. is a federation of 10 farmer-owned and -controlled cooperatives.
