New Top-10 Holstein Leads Seven Graduates at Select Sires
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Aug. 12, 2003 — The new red-and-white
Type-Production Index (TPI™) leader that also debuts
as No. 6 for TPI in the Holstein breed leads a group of
seven graduates into active-A.I. service at Select Sires.
This follows the Aug. 11 announcement of new official
evaluations by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Interbull
and Holstein Association USA. Four of these new sires will
appear on the Top-100 TPI list, with all transmitting a balance
of production and type as they join North America's leading
active-A.I. lineup of 90 Holsteins.
"While each one of these graduates is impressive in his own right,
three also are brothers to some of the breed's most-popular proven
sires - including 7HO6417 O-Bee MANfred Justice-ET*TV, 7HO5157
Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV and 7HO5841 Sikkema-Star-W HI
METRO-ET*CV," says Rick VerBeek, sire analyst, Select Sires.
"In addition, the group has high average reliabilities of 85
percent for yield traits and 81 percent for type traits, which
provides added assurance for producers. Backed by 12 different
sires and maternal grandsires, these seven graduates offer
diverse possibilities to improve the production of milk and
milk components, while improving economically important type traits."
Graduates Offer Extraordinary Production
While debuting as the No. 1 red-and-white sire for Type-Production
Index, 7HO8430 Zee-Cal PERSIA-RED-ET also earned a place among the

red-and-white outlier to improve body width, depth and scale, to
transmit correct feet and legs with steep foot angle, and to sire
high, wide rear udders with strong fore-udder attachments.
