New High-Components Lineup Includes Genetic Leaders in Each Breed
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Dec. 2, 2003 — The new Select Sires
lineup includes four of the top 10 Jersey sires for Jersey
Performance Index™ (JPI™), the top three Guernseys for Performance
Type Index (PTI), the top individual for PTA Net-Merit Dollars (NM$)
and PTI in the Ayrshire breed, and a top-10 Brown Swiss for PTI. This
follows the quarterly publishing of the dairy-sire evaluations by the
U.S. Department of Agriculture, InterBull and breed associations. The
Select Sires federation of 10 member cooperatives now markets semen from
38 active-A.I. sires in the Jersey, Guernsey, Ayrshire and Brown Swiss breeds.
Top Jerseys are at Select Sires
Today producers will find some of the Jersey breed’s highest sires for NM$,
Cheese-Merit Dollars (CM$) and JPI in Select’s lineup, as well as five of
the top 10 for PTAT.
The No. 2 bull in the breed for JPI (+294), NM$ (+518) and CM$ (+536) is
7JE535 Windy Willow Montana JACE. He also is in the top 10 for fat and
Fluid-Merit Dollars (FM$) with PTAs of +1,300M +.07%F +71F +.02%P +49P
+2.3T. Customer-satisfaction sire 7JE442 Rock Ella PARAMOUNT-ET ranks in the
top 10 of the breed for JPI (+263), NM$ (+452), CM$ (+472) and type (+2.5).
Also among the breed’s top-10 JPI, NM$ and CM$ sires are 9JE202 O.F. Barber
ROCKET (+272 JPI +436 NM$ +456CM$) and 7JE474 MVF Berretta FREDRICO-ET (+265
JPI +443 NM$ +468CM$).
Select Sires, recognized as the industry’s best source for type improvers,
also dominate the PTAT rankings with 10 earning PTAs for type of +2.0 or
more. All 10 also rank among the industry’s top 20 for type, including five
of the highest 10. Again this quarter, 7JE510 GOLDEN Boy of Ferreira is the
highest sire with a PTAT of +3.1. 7JE696 BW LEGION is No. 2 in the breed
with a PTAT of +3.0, followed by new graduate 7JE563 Sil-Mist RMBM Buttons
BRAZO-ET (+2.7) as No. 6. 7JE356 Lester SAMBO is the No. 8 type sire (+2.6)
and PARAMOUNT ranks No. 10.
New Guernsey Graduate Comes in With a Bang
Just seven Production-Type Index (PTI) points away from debuting as the
Guernsey breed’s highest-ranking sire, 7GU379 My Day Bliss BANGER-ET has a
PTI of +277. He also is the No. 1 protein sire (+57) and the No. 2 NM$ sire
with PTAs of +1,990M +69F +57P +449NM$ +1.7T.
Producers looking for a proven Guernsey to sire the ultimate balance of high
production and sound type should consider 7GU366 Trotacre Enhancer LEWIS-ET,
the breed’s No. 1 sire for PTI (+284), NM$ (+466), CM$ (+446), FM$ (+501),
fat (+69 PTAF), and type (+2.3 PTAT). With a PTAM of +2,119, he also is one
of only three Guernsey sires in active-A.I. service to be higher than a ton
of milk.
Not only does Select have the No. 1 and No. 2 Guernsey sires for PTAT, but
also two thirds of the Top 10. Ranking first again is LEWIS (+2.3T) and
second is 7GU360 Trotacre Loral TILLER-ET (+2.1T), who has already sired
All-American progeny.
WANDRINGEYE Continues to Dominate Ayrshire Breed
Yet again, 7AY62 Ardrossan Marathon WANDRINGEYE is the top proven sire in
the Ayrshire breed. WANDRINGEYE is No. 1 for these traits: +299 PTI +470 CM$
+461 NM$ +444 FM$, and No. 2 for milk and protein (PTAs +1,241M +42P). This
breed outlier continues to transmit dairy frames and strongly attached
udders that can generate top production.
9AY75 Palmyra TRI-STAR also ranks among the breed’s top 10 for PTI (+226)
NM$ (+313), CM$ (+326) and FM$ (+288). This balanced with a PTAT of +0.9 is
indicative of the type of frames, angularity and udders that make TRI-STAR
daughters stand out in the parlor and on the tanbark.
Brown Swiss Graduate to Influence Breed
Landing in the Brown Swiss breed’s top 10 for PTI with a value of +261,
7BS750 Hilltop Acres En DYNASTY ET already is becoming well known as an
udder specialist like his father, R Hart Simon ENSIGN ET. DYNASTY has PTAs
of +1,970M +59F +55P +505 FM$, and +0.9T. Already DYNASTY is a sire of sons
and embryos world wide.
