Holstein Association Names New Gold Medal Sires
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, March 2, 2004 — Holstein Association USA Inc.,
Brattleboro, Vt., has named 7HO5435 Be-Ware Juror GENO*TV, 7HO5484 Ricecrest
BOONE-ET*TV and 7HO6326 Regancrest DIFFERENCE-ET*TV as three of its newest
Gold Medal (GM) sires. This exclusive designation is awarded to
approximately 25 sires each year.
To qualify for permanent Gold Medal recognition, a sire must meet stringent
Type-Production Index (TPI™) requirements, have a minimum reliability of 90
percent for both Predicted Transmitting Ability for Fat (PTAF) and Predicted
Transmitting Ability for Type (PTAT), and must be free of undesirable
recessives and enzyme deficiencies.
GENO, a second-crop success bull, currently has more than 1,600 daughters in
his production proof with 99 percent reliability. He is +2.15 for udder
composite (UDC) while maintaining a respectable milk proof of +1,378. He
also is selected as a Herdlife Builder™ - which designates sires with
specific type traits that lead to longevity - and was bred by Peter Berg,
Bellville, Ohio.
Now No. 12 TPI, BOONE has also proven himself as a second-crop success sire.
At 99 percent reliability, this calving-ease specialist (6%DBH) is more than
a ton of milk and is plus for both fat and protein percents. Bred by Dale
and Fred Rice, Chambersburg, Pa., BOONE is designated a SUPERIOR SETTLER™.
Finally, DIFFERENCE, who recently was scored Excellent (95), is a maternal
brother to 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV. He’s plus for both fat and
protein percents and is +2.06PTAT (90% Rel.). He is the No. 3 bull in the
breed for body composite and is bred by Regancrest Farms, Waukon, Iowa.
All three bulls graduated from the Program for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™)
and qualify for all semen markets.
