Five New Holsteins Graduate into Select Sires Lineup
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, May 11, 2004 — Semen is now available from five Holstein
bulls that have graduated into active-A.I. service at Select Sires, including two high
production sires with Type-Production Indexes TPI™ that exceed +1600. This
follows the May 10 release of official dairy-sire evaluations by the U.S. Department
of Agriculture, Interbull and Holstein Association USA. All five sires were proven through
either the Genetic Opportunity for Leading Dairymen (GOLD) or the Program for Genetic
Advancement™ (PGA™) sampling system and now join North America's leading
active-A.I. lineup of 92 Holsteins.
"The May graduating class adds more genetic depth to the Select Sires Holstein lineup,
giving dairy producers more options for their summer breeding programs," says Blaine
Crosser, vice president, dairy products and services, Select Sires. "Whether producers
are looking for a ton of milk, positive components or sound type, they will find profitable
options within this group."
Two New Production Sires Over +1600 TPI
Fourth at Select Sires with a +1691 Type-Production Index (TPI) on his initial release,
9HO2805 Sandy-Valley BONIFAY-ET*TV may become better known as Select's
top production sire with a +2,652 Predicted Transmitting Ability for Milk (PTAM) at
84% Rel. This 7HO4985 Out-Jock Choice AMEL-ET son also is the stud's highest
Protein sire (+78P) and is elite for dollar values at +598 Net Merit Dollars (NM$),
+596 Cheese Merit Dollars (CM$) and +603 Fluid Merit Dollars (FM$). A graduate
of the GOLD program and bred by Bauer Brothers, Scandinavia, Wis., BONIFAY's
dam is Ricecrest Bwood Brianne-ET, Very Good (88), Gold Medal Dam (GMD) and
Dam of Merit (DOM), and hails from the highly-regarded Ricecrest Southwind Kaye-ET
family. This solid type sire (+1.27T 73% Rel.) is best recognized for siring the type of feet and legs that will track straight ahead and have plenty of heel depth, resulting in a
+1.63 Feet-and-Leg Composite (FLC).
The second May 2004 graduate of the GOLD sampling program, 9HO2763 Plushanski
FARADAY-ET*TV, already ranks among the best 50 on the Holstein Association's
Top-100 TPI list at +1624 TPI (83% Rel.). He is a profit-generating sire for many of
today's milk markets (+511 NM$ +544 CM$) with solid production (+1,807M) and
the fourth-highest PTAP at Select (+.07% P +72P). FARADAY offers a non-traditional
pedigree to producers who purchase semen from Select Sires. He is one of the first proven
sons of Paulo-Bro RTL DEMAND TCG-ET in active A.I., a sire the industry used to
improve dairy strength, feet and legs. His Very Good (88-DOM) dam, with 5-9 365d
47,863M 3.7% 1,773F 3.5% 1,675P, is a daughter of Plushanski BELGIUM-ET and
traces back to one of the production matriarchs in the breed, Plushanski Chief Faith, all
bred by Charles Plushanski, Kutztown, Pa. As this pedigree suggests, FARADAY has a
solid type proof (+1.56T 79% Rel.), siring moderately tall, high-producing cows that balance angularity with strength and width along with good mobility (+2.32 FLC) and sound udders.

ligament, and correct feet and legs.
7HO6685 Royland Patron BRYCE-ET*TV is also on the May high fertility list at
Select Sires. Like his sire, 9HO1729 Brabant Star PATRON-ET, this PGA graduate
will answer the summer breeding needs of producers who are in search of profitable
production (+1,353M 82% Rel.) coupled with solid components (+.06%F +64F
