The World's source for Bovine Genetics
Select Lineup Reveals Genetic Leadership in High-Components Breeds

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, May 18, 2004 — The May 2004 Select Sires high-component breeds lineup includes the No.1 Brown Swiss sire for Predicted Transmitting Ability for Milk (PTAM), the highest-three Guernseys for Performance Type Index (PTI), one third of the top sires for Jersey Performance Index™ (JPI™), and four of the best 10 PTI sires in the Ayrshire breed. These findings follow the quarterly publishing of the dairy-sire evaluations by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Interbull and the breed associations. The Select Sires federation of 10 member cooperatives currently markets semen from 37 sires in all four high-component breeds, including May graduates in both the Jersey and Ayrshire lineups.

"Select Sires is committed to providing superior genetics to breeders in all these breeds," says Jeff Ziegler, Manager of Protein/Specialty Sire Programs, Select Sires. "We start by procuring the best possible genetics so our field staff continually can market a large quantity of quality sires with highly-reliable proofs. The Program for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™) remains the backbone of our success. Sampling more than 50 bulls from these four breeds each year, producers can trust that Select Sires will continue to offer proven sires that rank among the best in their respective breeds."

A Dynasty in the Brown Swiss Breed

Considered one of the world's most widely demanded sires for sons and embryos, 7BS750 Hilltop Acres En DYNASTY ET is the highest of four sires in active-A.I. that exceed +2,000M and the only sire over +600FM$. Climbing to new PTA levels each summary since his initial release in November 2003, he ranks among the best 10 Brown Swiss sires in all major performance traits at +2,237M +71F +63P +588 Net Merit Dollars (NM$) +580 Cheese Merit Dollars (CM$) +601 Fluid Merit Dollars (FM$) 78% Rel. He also is Select's leading source for PTA Type (+1.1T, 73% Rel.), culminating in an extremely balanced +304 PTI and third-place ranking in the breed. Also established as one of the premier udder specialists with a +1.09 Udder Composite, this R Hart Simon ENSIGN ET son has raised the genetic bar when it comes to overall udder improvement in the "big brown cow."

Brown Swiss sires at Select are a significant source for high-production genetics, with DYNASTY at a ton of milk and 7BS736 Forest Lawn PHT JAMARR ET at +1,960M (80% Rel.) and 7BS733 Misa Jetway MASCOT ET at +1,840M (93% Rel.-M).

Top Three Guernseys to Impact Breed

A review of the May active-A.I. list shows that the names of the top three Guernseys for PTI and the best two for PTA Type are preceded by the 7GU stud code. 7GU366 Trotacre Enhancer LEWIS-ET dominates almost every performance ranking, being No.1 for PTI (+268), NM$ (+438), FM$ (+470) and PTAF (+65) at 81% Rel. With a PTAM of +2,021, he also is the only Guernsey sire in active A.I. that is over a ton of milk and plus for type. His high +2.1T (79% Rel.) places this sire of sons second in the breed for type, right behind 7GU360 Trotacre Loral TILLER-ET (+2.2T, 79% Rel.), who is third in the breed for PTI (+252, 80% Rel.).

Second in the breed at +260PTI (75% Rel.), 7GU379 My Day Bliss BANGER-ET is sandwiched between these two type leaders. Doubling the number of daughters in his proof since his November release, this Trotacre Mercury LORRY-ET son out of Laeschland Perfect Bliss-ET (EX-92) again is the top protein yield improver (+54P) and among the top four for PTAM (+1,892), NM$ (+396), CM$ (+391) and FM$ (+405) and Fat (+62F) (75% Rel.). Add to this consistent performance a third consecutive +1.7 score for PTAT (70% Rel.) and BANGER has solidified his position as one of the impact sires in the breed.

Adding to Select's genetic leadership on the type list (five of the breed's top seven) are 9GU148 Trotacre Enhancer TYLER-ET (+1.9, 68% Rel.) and 7GU357 Marodore Enhancer ROY-ET (+1.8, 73% Rel.).

The third MONTANA son, 7JE587 Sunny Day Montana PUTMAN-ET, graduates this summary from the PGA with a +253JPI (82% Rel.), already placing him 18th on this elite list. A top-10 protein sire (+54P, +52F), this premium, cheese-yield specialist (+458CM$) will draw attention from profit-minded Jersey producers. Bred by Herby D. Lutz, Chester, S.C., his dam is Headspring Berretta Push, an Excellent (92) 7JE254 Mason Boomer Sooner BERRETTA daughter, with 3-9 305d 31,110M 4.5% 1,403F 3.7% 1,153P.
