Breed’s Top Two Holsteins for TPI and Type are at Select Sires
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, May 25, 2004 — Six of the top-12 proven sires on the
Holstein Association’s Top 100 Type-Production Index (TPI™) listing are in
the May 2004 Select Sires lineup, including the industry’s high-ranking
sire/son pair of 7HO5375 Mara-Thon BW MARSHALL-ET*TV (No. 2 at +1828 TPI)
and 7HO6682 B-Hiddenhills Mar MARMAX-ET*RC, TV (No. 12 at +1711 TPI). This
follows the quarterly release of official dairy-sire evaluations by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, Interbull and the breed association.
"The Program for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™) was developed over 30 years ago
as the means to procure deep-pedigreed young sires and develop highly-proven
bulls through a nationwide-sampling system. Today PGA remains one of the
premier A.I.-sampling programs in the world," says Chuck Sattler, vice
president, genetic programs, Select Sires. "The Consistent Results™ that
Select Sires produces is again evident in the six PGA graduates that are
among the top-12 TPI bulls on Holstein’s Top 100. These six also are the
only bulls in the top 12 with reliabilities for production at or higher than
90 percent. And PGA has delivered the first proven son of the world-renowned
BW MARSHALL. Select Sires has a track record of identifying and procuring
genetics that today’s dairy producer looks for."
Six of Top-12 on Top-100 TPI List

any other A.I. source. The only two bulls in the breed higher than +3.00 PTAT, 7HO5841
Sikkema-Star-W HI METRO-ET*CV (+3.22T, 89% Rel.) and 7HO5157 Regancrest
Elton DURHAM-ET*CV (+3.08T-M, 99% Rel.) are undoubtedly the premier type

Composite (UDC) and over +2.00 for the other three composites.
A total of 14 sires exceed +2.00 UDC. Four additional sires join HI METRO
and DURHAM over +2.50 for udder composite: 7HO6313 CROCKETT-Acres
