Exciting Jersey and Brown Swiss Sires Released
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Nov. 16, 2004 — Select Sires activated three new proven
Jerseys and a new Brown Swiss sire that are all graduates of the Program
for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™). Each hails from a highly-regarded
dam from a deep-pedigreed cow family.
"The objective of PGA is to locate deep-pedigreed, high-performance
cows, mate them to complementary proven sires, and obtain the best
possible young sires for sampling," says Jeff Ziegler, manager of
protein/specialty sire programs, Select Sires. "Procuring each young
sire through a national sampling system consistently generates
reliably-proven sires. We then can select new sires that have the most
potential to make positive contributions to breed improvement. The track
record of PGA identifying these breed leaders is unmatched."
Twenty sires in active A.I. have Jersey Performance Indexes™
(JPI™) that are higher than +250 and eight are at Select Sires, the
most in the industry. New graduate 7JE620 Sunset Canyon MAXIMUS-ET is
one of these high-indexing sires, No. 11 at +269 JPI (66% Rel.). He is
an ISDK Fyn LEMVIG son out of Tenn Haug E Maid (EX-93), the
highly-touted components cow with 7.3% fat and 4.5% protein. The next
dam is a 7.0% fat and 4.6% protein ISDK Fyn INDEX daughter. This is the
same cow family that produced 7JE605 Sunset Canyon MECCA-ET, an August
graduate and components specialist that is also in the top 20 at +255
JPI (81% Rel.). Both are outcross sires with MAXIMUS at a 3.8 Expected
Future Inbreeding (EFI) index and MECCA at 5.1 EFI. MAXIMUS also is the
breed's highest sire for fat yield with a Predicted Transmitting Ability
(PTA) of +103F and breed's third best at +.40% fat and +553 Cheese
Merit Dollars (CM$).
Select Sires also dominates the latest Jersey PTA Type rankings, with
more than half of the breed's best 25. Tied for second at +2.8T are
7JE510 GOLDEN Boy of Ferreira (93% Rel.)and 7JE696 BW LEGION (74% Rel.).
Right behind them is August release 7JE590 Forest Glen Avery ACTION-ET,
a SUPERIOR SETTLER™ who is +2.7T (69% Rel.).
New graduates, both with PTAT values of +1.9T, 7JE613 Blackys BIG
TIME-ET (61% Rel.) and 7JE577 Bridon Sambo CHARISMATIC-ET (58% Rel.)
were both popular sampling sires and each already has offspring winning
at shows. BIG TIME is a 7JE290 WF/L&M Duncan BARBER-ET son out of Blacky
Rose of Briarcliffs (EX-96). It's not surprising that outstanding udders
and plus components (+.16%F +.05%P 84% Rel.) are his forte. A 7JE356
Lester SAMBO son, CHARISMATIC combines the greatness of Duncan Belle
with Hases Babes Lad Charo (SUP-EX-92-4E-CAN), the former world-record
holder for milk production. The result is a balanced sire with +943M
+.01%F +45F 70% Rel. with a low 2.97 Somatic Cell Score, a positive +1.8
Productive Life, and firmly-attached udders.
One of three Select sires at +1.1T (59% Rel.), 7BS753 Sun-Made Garbro
PUZZLE ET is what one would expect from combining R Hart BC COLLECTION
with Top Acres Monopoly Pick ET (EX-93-2E). She completes five
successive generations of Excellent dams with production records
approaching 40,000 pounds of milk. That translates into PTA yield values
of +1,530M +58F +48P 70% Rel. Also at +1.1T (76% Rel.), 7BS750 Hilltop
Acres En DYNASTY ET remains the breed's No. 1 production sire at +2,184M
(84% Rel.).
Leading the Guernsey breed, Select owns six of the best nine sires for
PTA Type. Still first in the breed at +2.2T (79% Rel.) is 7GU366
Trotacre Enhancer LEWIS-ET, who also is No.1 for PTI (+260). Tied for
third in the breed at +1.9T are 7GU379 My Day Bliss BANGER-ET (77% Rel.)
and 9GU148 Trotacre Enhancer TYLER-ET (69% Rel.).
May 2004 PGA graduate 7AY71 Lagace BLACKOUT is tied for sixth among all
Ayrshires for type at +0.9 PTAT (64% Rel.).
