Holstein Breed's Best New Sires


PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Nov. 23, 2004 — The highest-ranking new bulls on Holstein's Top-100 TPI list are both November graduates of Select Sires' Program for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™) sampling system. 7HO6737 Doughty-Valley Kilo ALLAN*TV is No. 3 on the list with +1785 Type-Production Index (TPI™) and 7HO6799 Hidden-View AUGUSTINE-ET*TV is tied for ninth at +1711 TPI.

Select Sires dominates the list including the Holstein breed's best three and six of the top 11 for TPI. 7HO6417 O-Bee MANfred Justice-ET*TV and 7HO5375 Mara-Thon BW MARSHALL-ET*TV remain No. 1 and No. 2 in the breed and 7HO5484 Ricecrest BOONE-ET*TV is No. 8. Newly released in August, 9HO2831 Kings-Ransom M DUCE-ET*TV anchors this elite group at No.11 with a +1705 TPI (87% Rel.).

The most-exciting new TPI sire in the breed, ALLAN, is the epitome of balance. He is one of only two sires at Select with a Predicted Transmitting Ability (PTA) for production that is over a ton of milk (+2,162M) and greater than two points for type (+2.07T). Select's first proven 7HO4960 SFL Converse KILO-ET son, ALLAN sires the same high solids that KILO was recognized for (-.01%F +75F +.03%P +71P 82% Rel). This Herdlife Builder™ is a leader at +612 Net Merit Dollars (NM$), +624 Cheese Merit Dollars (CM$), and +590 Fluid Merit Dollars (FM$). He also sires uniform composite scores of +1.59 Udder Composite (UDC), +1.67 Feet-and-Legs Composite (FLC), +2.16 Body Composite (BD), and +1.71 Dairy Composite (DC) at 75% Reliability.

AUGUSTINE is the other new top-10 TPI performer who sires tall, strong cows with a will to milk (+2,491M, 80% Rel.). He has an extreme protein yield (+76P) plus great rear udders (+1.90 UDC) and good mobility (+1.85 FLC). This Herdlife Builder is the first proven son of Ricecrest LANTZ-ET at Select Sires. His dam is a 7HO3948 MJR Blackstar EMORY-ET daughter (VG-88-GMD-DOM) with 37,770M 1,583F 1,204P. The next dam is Hidden-View Lead Becca-ET (EX-91-3E), who also is the grandam of 7HO6349 Hidden-View BEST*TV (+2.14T, 87% Rel.).

The second-highest Select sire for PTA Fat (+98), 7HO6695 Latuch Convincer Farley-ET*TV (LC) is an ideal choice for component-minded dairy producers with PTA yield values of +1,604M +.16%F +98F +.00%P +47P +531 NM$ +529 CM$ +535 FM$ 83% Rel. At +1609 TPI, this new SUPERIOR SETTLER™ and Herdlife Builder also increases longevity with +1.64T (79% Rel.), +1.73 FLC and +1.27 UDC.

7HO7680 Nor-Som STEAMROLLER-ET*TV debuts with an elite TPI ranking of +1653. He is Select's fifth lowest sire for Somatic Cell Score at 2.78 SCS and one of highest for Productive Life at +2.1 PL. One of the early Carol Prelude MTOTO-ET sons, this Herdlife Builder balances high-components and production (+1,286M +.06%F +61F +.01%P +41P 78% Rel.) with type that lasts (+1.90T +2.07 UDC +2.19 FLC 72% Rel.).

7HO6758 Regancrest-MR Drham SAM-ET*TV is a widely-sampled 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET son with 166 daughters in 103 herds and ranks 26 on the TPI list (+1647, 90% Rel.). He is the industry's sixth-highest Holstein sire at +2.98T with composites of +2.37 UDC and +2.39 FLC at 86% Reliability.
