Dr. Raymond Nebel Hired at Select Sires Inc.

Dr. Raymond Nebel, Senior Reproduction and Dairy Herd Management Specialist

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Nov. 30, 2004 — Dr. Raymond Nebel has been named to the position of Senior Reproduction and Dairy Herd Management Specialist for Select Sires Inc. In this role, he will conduct training seminars from basic levels of bovine reproduction and A.I. to highly advanced training in reproductive management, records analysis and trouble shooting for Select Sires personnel. Dr. Nebel also will develop reproduction management training materials, conduct research, and enlist the expertise of industry and academic personnel to further strengthen Select Sires' reproductive programs.

Since 1995, Dr. Nebel has been a Professor in the Department of Dairy Science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), Blacksburg, Va. In his current appointment, 75 percent of Dr. Nebel's responsibilities lie in extension, working directly with dairy farmers, and 25 percent in research.

In 2004, Dr. Nebel received the DeLaval Dairy Extension Award from the American Dairy Science Association and also received the National Association of Animal Breeder's Research Award.

He is the author of over 40 innovative scientific research articles in the areas of heat detection, dairy herd reproductive management and semen physiology, and has written over 200 popular press articles on these subjects. Dr. Nebel is often a featured speaker at dairy producer conferences nationally and internationally, addressing practical farm reproduction concerns.

A native of Louisiana, Dr. Nebel earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Northeast Louisiana University, Monroe, La., a Master of Science in Dairy Science at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md., and a PhD in Dairy Science, under the guidance of R.G. Saacke at Virginia Tech. He has taught undergraduate and graduate classes at the University of Maryland, North Carolina State University, and Virginia Tech.

Dr. Nebel will begin his new assignment with Select Sires in July 2005.
